Hopkins - Pascal, Scorecard and thoughts on the fight.

Discussion in 'British Boxing Forum' started by Johnson Knows, Dec 18, 2010.

  1. I had Hopkins taking it 115 - 112 with him sweeping the last 7 rounds. I thought that it was a close but clear win for Hopkins. With regard to the knockdowns I thought that the first one was bordeline and the second one was clearly legit. Hopkins looked slow and unsure of himself early on, Pascal's tactics were spot on, he was limiting the activity and using his speed to get to Hopkins, catching him with leads and punching with Hopkins, getting the better of it in the scrappy exchanges, particularly with the right hook. As the fight wore on Hopkins began to have a lot of success with his body punching and was finding Pascal easily with the straight right hand. Hopkins pressed the action and timed Pascal's attacks very effectively. He made the adjustments needed to win early, unlike the first Taylor fight where he was too cautious and let the fight slip away from him. Down the stretch he maintained his work rate very impressively. I was disapointed with the scoring. Hopkins was in total command from halfway. Justice would have seen him riding off into the sunset with another great win.

As said elsewhere, I think it seems more of a robbery than it really is.

Hopkins put in a performance worthy of winning 118-110.

Given the context of the knockdowns (they weren't hard, clean, hurtful and happened right at the end of the the round), and the fact they turned 10-9 round Hopkins rounds, into 10-8 Pascal rounds. It's hard not to feel sorry for BHop, given that presents a 6pt swing right there. You can't say those knockdowns truely merited a 6pt swing in favour of Pascal, but... that how scoring works.

I scored the fight 114-112 Hopkins, and taking the event as a whole, he won the fight a lot clearer than that.

  4. I didn't think that the rounds where Pascal put Hopkins down were clear either way.

Close but clear B-Hop win... the only excuses the judges have for making it close as they did was the 2xKDs.

Respect to BHop, the man is truly inspirational at age 45

I've said all along that Pascal is not a smart fighter, at all. He has one way of fighting and if you can figure that out, he's ****ed. Yes he has speed, but once you've seen his lunging in from distance **** a couple of times, it's easy to spot his attacks. If Froch can work it out, Hopkins was always going to. Just a shame about those early knock downs.

Another Calzaghe victim shows their brilliance.

    Calzaghe's resume takes another boost.

These boosts will continue for a long time, by 2014 we may fully begin to fully appreciate Calzaghe's resume.

Then you've given Pascal 3 points for each knockdown.

If you have a fighter winning a round 10-9 but then he gets KD'd its OK to give a 10-9 round to the other rather than a 10-8.

I had it 115-111 Hopkins, he clearly won as far as I'm concerned.
