Sat. night/old man robbed in Canada !

It's only fitting that his career would (probably) come to a close the way his reign began, with him traveling to a foreign country and being the victim of a highly questionable draw. He brought back some of his old style after suffering the early knockdowns, pressuring Pascal and working the body with the left hook. Never thought I'd see that from him, old as he was, but Pascal gave him all the opportunities with his constant back-pedaling and lack of any aggression.

 

Poor guy. I feel bad for ol' snaggletooth-he really deserved it tonight!

 

The fight was basically Hopkins-Mercado I, 17 years later. You know you've done yourself proud when you get a draw in the opponent's hometown after being ruled down twice.

 

agreed, the first jones fight was hopkins only clear loss. the other losses were all too close and could have gone either way. great performance from bhop.

 

Sometimes you win the fight but don't get the decision. I alluded to this in my pred. Hopkins surprised me again though...by stalking and going to the body well to take the steam out of Pascal.

 

****, I thought Pascal KD'd him 3 times. He was lucky that 3rd one wasn't ruled as one. It sure looked like it. He did turn back the clock over the last 6 or 7 rounds. Still, I don't think it qualifies as a robbery.

 

Hopkins definately won the fight last night in my opinion, the fact that he got a draw when being down twice in the opponents hometown speaks volumes to that effect. Pascal is a very limited fighter and his days as chump are numbered, both his title winning effort vs Dawson and his first defence vs Hopkins have been highly controversial and it is not by accident, he is just simply not that good of a fighter.

His punch output is limited to bursts of activity followed by doing nothing for over a minute while he regains his stamina and does some posturing while going backwards to avoid any exchanges in the meantime. He is not an intelligent or adaptable fighter and after last nights fight he seems to also have a fragile ego judging by his facial expression in the corner between rounds as the fight progressed.

You could clearly see the distress and concern on his face and the fact that he did nothing to try and turn the tide shows he was intimidated by Hopkins aggression and determination, I wonder what a in-shape Glen Johnson or Carl Froch would have done to him last night, my guess is he may well have been stopped by either man seeing how they can both punch and have higher punch outputs than B-Hop.

Speaking of B-Hop now it seems that he just needed a few rounds to find his range and settle into his groove, unfortunately he tasted the canvas twice in the first three rounds to put him in a tough hole to climb out of on the cards but imo he did just that as of the 4th round, his comeback was a sight to behold and colour me impressed as B-Hop showed he was a class above Pascal even at his advanced age.

He should hang em up now and walk away from the sport, he has nothing left to prove and it would be a classy way of bowing out and without having a loss as his last fight makes it all the better. Time catches up to us all and for Hopkins I think we may well have seen his last hurrah last night, its just too bad he didn`t get the win he rightfully deserved.

1st time: 116-112 Hopkins
2nd time: 117-113 Hopkins

Still not a robbery, although any scorecard favouring Pascal is dog wank.

 

Was that every round to BHop apart from 1 & 3?

I'm gonna watch it again later and see how I go on.

Great post and I agree with everything except that I thought Jean clearly beat Dawson headbutt or not. No controversy imo. Pascal is limited but I'm still a fan but I'm just certain that this was a great Bhop and nothing was different about Pascal. I'm a bigger fan of Bhop but despite the result, with a performance like that he should just call it an end to a strange at times career. Many guys around that age don't have performances like that except for Holyfield who beat a more limited Valuev but that was a clearer robbery as anyone who scored it for Valuev shouldn't be taken seriously. I wish Holy hung em up for good after that performance and I wish Hopkins hangs em up for good in like a few days lol. He gained a lot of newfound respect yesterday and should be proud.

 

I think the KDs actually brought some urgency out in BHOPs to bring a really special offensive performance, has he retired or will he fight again? I think he won't be content with that and be back

 

That was a great display by Hopkins. Nothing dirty, just pure boxing. I couldn't believe it.
