Damn, there have been a lot.:yikes Even last night, with Nard handing Pascal his ass for about nine rounds, was a shock. Some of the main contenders (off the top of my head): Ricky Burns UD Roman Martinez Fernando Montiel TKO4 Hozumi Hasegawa Giovani Segura KO8 Ivan Calderon Jason Litzau SD Celestino Caballero Ryol Li Lee UD Poonsawat Kratingdaenggym Gilberto Keb Bass MD Omar Nino Romero Kaizer Mabuza RTD6 Kendall Holt Garth Wood KO5 Anthony Mundine I'm not going to make a poll out of this yet, as I'm sure there are a shitload of bouts I have left out (you could chuck the Sergio Martinez victories in as well). But out of that list I'll go with Litzau beating Caballero - that was unbelievable! Feel free to chip in with some domestic ones if you wish (like Larryea beating Appleby recently).
Good question. I'd be tempted to say Burns, but I was hoping he'd win so had that 'blind optimism' so it wasn't a massive shock to me when he won. A surprise though. I'd go for Segura beating Calderon. Somebody on here once said 'death, taxes and a Calderon UD' which really summed him up for me. Segura should have been one of these easy opponents for titlists you see every week on Top Rank Live or those Integrated Sports PPV's, but it was a great fight and I was truly shocked at what happened.
Okay lad, I'll get a solid list of 8 or 9 and then I'll set up a poll and you can all vote. Sound fair?
When Celestino Caballero lost, I was like "...this is the guy everyone's talking about being great, isn't he?", he got whooped.
I suppose you could say Pong vs Kameda was an upset. He was past his best after all and Kameda had just beaten Naito.
