Do you rank Bernard Hopkins higher than Floyd Mayweather in the ATG standings?

Why you mentioning Marquez, Pac didn't beat him in any of the fights I watched. As for Morales and barerra great wins. But that ain't enough to put him ahead of this living legend.

 

Pac clearly deserved the decision in the 1st Marquez fight in my opinion, and I scored the 2nd fight 114-114...


...but in reality, the 2nd fight was scored as a win to Pac, so I say again:

When you add those to all his other top wins (Sasakul, Ledwaba, Hatton, Cotto, Margarito, Clottey, etc etc etc) from the mid-late 90s up to 2010 and counting, and the fact he is potentially THE greatest weight-jumper in the history of the sport, I thoroughly disagree...


...and I expect boxing history will as well. Pac WILL be remembered as the premiere fighter of this age. :good

 

Not good enough to be ranked ahead of hopkins in my opinion. But this is a popularity competition at the end of the day. Hopkins will forever be underrated.

 

I adore Hopkins, so I don't even want to argue about it, but for me (like most) Pac's mark on boxing history has been greater. His achievements have just been insane, abnormal, and amazing.

Still, this weekend should be about B-Hop. He has now firmly leapfrogged Floyd as I see it. To outfight a guy like Pascal at almost 46 is just INCREDIBLE.

 

Marquez was a bloated lightweight. I respect Hops result over Pascal more than Mayweathers result over Marquez.

Hopkins getting a draw (BHop won) at age 45 against a Champ 18 years his younger is more respectable than Mayweather UD Marquez.

 

You say this weekend should be about Hopkins yet created a thread that brings in floyd mayweather to the equation. Just something I noticed.

I also noticed you thought Hopkins would lose. So I guess his performance last night has got you way more pumped than usual.

It was a great fight, but stylistically Pascal was tailor made for hopkins.

 

I wouldn't be overly pissed if someone would place Hopkins over Pacquiao but I wouldn't agree with them.

He places above Mayweather I feel, but not over Pacquiao or Jones I feel (not 100% convinced with my Jones choice, but still...)

 

The thread is about Hopkins's place in the pantheon of greats alongside one of the other greats of this era. It is both normal and valid to ask questions of greatness and legacy in the aftermath of a terrific performance from an HOF lock fighter. I don't think Hopkins's showing took him equal with Pac or even Jones, but I do think it put clear daylight between him and Floyd, THAT was what changed for me this weekend, hence the thread. It is silly to refuse to mention any other fighter when discussing the greatness of one.

Yes, Hopkins's performance has me very pumped indeed, I am a boxing fan and I get excited by great boxing and brave achievements. No apologies there. Perhaps when I've calmed down I'll re-consider my position... but I doubt that very much.

Stylistically yes.... but a man nearing 46 just should not have the physical capabilities to capitalize on that. :nono

Hopkins resume pisses on Floyds to be fair.
Hopkins wins in ATG status but Floyds the better boxer.

 

Jones, Pacquaio and Hopkins are without a shadow of a doubt the greatest fighters of our generation.
