No way in hell is it Burns. Quite a few of us looked past the hype and saw Martinez was a crude fighter that got outboxed by Cook for the most part. That was only really a minor surprise to me, it was mostly the Brit forum that turned Martinez into a superhuman beast. Litzau/Caballero easy. That surprised the **** out of me. Not that Cab lost but that he lost to Litzau shocked me.
Burns seems to be gathering all the votes. But I agree with TFFP - never saw the Caballero-Litzau result coming, not in a million years. I mean what was Burns for the Martinez fight, a 3/1 outsider or something like that. Litzau would have been a much bigger outsider in the Cab fight.
Martinez sparking Williams in that manner was a shocker for me, but I voted for Burns as I thought he'd be ko'd. When I woke up this morning I was pretty surprised at the Hopkins Pascal fight, he is unbelievable really to be competing at the level he is.
Why? Montiel has always been world-class, it was only a slight upset in that respect, if an upset at all. Sure plenty of people - including myself - got it wrong, but plenty still gave him a good chance and a lot still picked him. I'd go for Gilberto Keb Bass beating Omar Nino Romero myself, that was a good call by jpab. Bass over the previous 4 years had 18 fights and went for 7 wins, 3 draws and 8 defeats. He never beat anybody of note in that time. He did go on a decent run of winning form from the start of 2010 up until the fight with Romero, but again beat nobody apart from cans, journeyman and an unheralded 8-0 'prospect'. Romero wasn't exactly an established champion but he had beaten Rodel Mayol and previous knocked out the then-unbeaten Brian Viloria and nobody even batted an eyelid at this fight because it seemed like a standard run-of-the-mill defence that turned into a nightmare.
