Imo the reason Calzaghe barely got by Hopkins is cause of Freddie Roach!

The reason Calzaghe barely got by Hopkins was because he underestimated the old man. Remember, he kept saying Hopkins was old during the entire promotion. He didn't respect Hopkins enough.

I don't think trainers would make Hopkins less of a fighter anymore. I mean, he's Hopkins FFS. Even Hopkins rates Roach as the greatest trainer in this era above Nazim. He sees something you guys don't. Monday night Quarterbacks.

Nazim was there just for support but he wasn't there as a trainer. That was Roach job. And if you notice in Hopkins corner, Nazim was far from the corner in which he didn't speak at all.

If that's true then why Hopkins fired Roach after the lost to Calzaghe? Ok he might rate Roach cause the way Roach train Pacquiao but Roach did absolutely terrible of the way he train Hopkins. I didn't hear any good instructions at all from Roach to Hopkins. It was like Hopkins was facing Calzaghe without a trainer. With Nazim who talks, Nazim gives Hopkins confident, better instructions, better faith. Even when Hopkins had that very old trainer in his corner, the only person you hear in the corner and in between fights is Nazim screaming giving instructions.

Hopkins is so experienced, that he probably doesn't really need a trainer to tell him how to adapt.

I think Hopkins loss to Joe, was a culmination of two factors, Joe adapting mid fight, and Hopkins inconsistency due to his age. I believe older fighters performances go up and down cause their body goes through peaks and lows, which is why I think Hopkins can fight as consistently as he did against Pascal, Wink, Pavlik, but also looked gassed against guys like Joe.

This is one of the reasons I believe there is always one last great performance in these old great fighters. Take Holyfield, look for all the world like a shot fighter against Bowe 3, and Moorer, yet looked a million dollars against Mike Tyson, he then fought poorly against Lewis, and wasn't really that active imo, but look how he fought the rematch, he looked a lot more energized.

No this is ****, easy to talk the talk but hard when you got to walk the walk come fight night with a good boxer like Joe . C.
Hopkins wrestled, use his head a number of times and when he was feeling the pace blagged a low blow. Hopkins would of never won a rematch. FACT.... Hopkins was awfull fight night get over it...

Calzaghe barely got by Hopkins because Hopkins was only intent on clinching, fouling, and just generally ****ing up the fight.

He did this because he knew he could not compete with Calzaghe in any other way, which showed with him getting absolutely gassed towards the end of the fight and crying like a little girl over non-existent low blows.

Nazim would have pumped Hopkins up more than Roach did.
