One of the judges had Round 3 10-9 for Pascal even though he knocked Hopkins down because Hopkins won the round even though he got knocked down.

Its a close fight if you score within the official rules. You cant tot up a scorecard round by round, then when the fights finished, think hmm!, who deserved to win more? I know!, I will go back and change this round, that round, as it doesn't matter, based on the 10 point must system, how much you dominate the rounds you win, cause you dont get extra credit for it, not unless you get a KD, well I think you can, but not many people exercise that rule.

I personally dont think you judge a fight on how you! think it should be scored, I believe you should judge it on how you think the judge will score it, based on the official criteria that the rules state it should be scored within, cause if we all apply our own logic, our own ideals, we will come to wildly inaccurate scores.

Was the fight that easy to score though? cause Hopkins was still getting nailed with the odd right hand, or left hook, even when he won some of the rounds he won. Infact I have seen various people say Hopkins won the 12, only from what I remember, Pascal landed the cleaner punches.

To be honest, I think people are claiming it was a robbery cause they are disgruntled fans who'd rather Hopkins would of won, so they are trying to justify the term robbery, as its more hard hitting, head line making, I personally dont think Pascal deserved to win, im easy with a draw, or a Hopkins win, but this fight was close based on if you score within the official rules imo.

Good post. You raise somecvalid points. However, i sincerely thought Hopkins won this fight,. I did when i watched it live, i did after watching it the second time round and even more so third time round!!

For me, it was such an easy fight to score.

Exactly, for me, neither rounds were 10-8 rounds. This fight draws comparatives with the Tomasz Adamek Vs Steve Cunningham fight.

After reading a few comments on here, i'm absolutely flabbergasted to discover people actually trying to justify the result last night. There is a reocurring flawed logic amongst the boxing community, that a close fight, can not be a 'robbery'. Yes, I concur this was a close fight. Does that mean this was not a 'robbery'? Firstly, the basis of this being a close fight, is purely, based on the two knockdowns. Legitimate or not, they were scored as two official knockdowns. However, the second knockdown, could have (and should have, in my humble opinion) been scored as a 10-9 round, due to Hopkins clearly winning the 3rd round, up until the knockdown occurred. This round, I feel, was the only round, which, may have presented both the judges, and viewers with a difficult decision to make.

Personally, i scored the fight identical to Steve Morrow, 114-112, in favour of the Challenger Bernard Hopkins. Yes, this 'contradicts' my opinion that this fight was a 'robbery'. On the other hand, the nature of the fight, the manner in which Hopkins clearly won, 8, if not 9, of the remaining rounds, after round 3, asks the question, when a fight is so easy to score, should we seriously accept any less than the correct decision??

I seldom remember a fight, where, round by round it was so easy to score. In this respect, i would deem this fight, a 'robbery'. Based on how clear, concise and apparent the winner of each and every single round (apart from maybe the 12th) was. Yes, this fight on the scorecards was close, but a close fight on the scorecards, as witnessed, can also be a robbery.

Since people seems to have problem with the round by round concept, ill go with a comparison:
Let's talk about football. Even if for 9 games you outscored opponent 30-0. If you have 9 wins and 7 losses, the 10-6 team will still be in front of you in the standing.

Yesterday Hopkins:
- won more rounds - yes
- dominate more minutes - yes
- dominate on punches threw and landed - yes
But since their was these two KD, on points it was a close fight, not a robbery.

I thought Pascal won the fight. No way that's a robbery. alot of people had Pascal winning.

If you go by scoring criteria a draw, Hopkins or Pascal victory are all credible. In all honesty, the draw was the best decision the judges could have made in this situation. No way were all the rounds easy to score or a white wash for Hopkins going from round three on. There were still some rounds which Hopkins was the busier fighter, but Pascal landed some quality punches that shook Hopkins up to negate the work.

If anything the scoring shows a fundamental flaw in scoring in professional boxing. Boxing is scored by rounds instead of a the entirety of the fight. Sure Pascal did some good early work, but had the fight been a 15 round fight, or endless fight, Hopkins would have spanked that ass. However that introduces different sitatuations/strategies/ and scoring problems.

We have the system that we have and we have to abide by it until we find a better system. I would have like Hopkins to have won, but draw was the best the decision, and a Pascal victory would not have been out of the question.
