Armstrong by clear UD. He would give Chavez no rest. It would be a war, but I think Henry's nonstop workrate is the difference in this one.

 

They could ruin each other. I favor Armstrong though.

I think "not the least bit competitive" is very strong, and I think Chavez is a threat here- Chavez has the slower hands and lower workrate, but he has the heavier hands, better chin, and, in this case for once, would have the shorter punch stroke and probably better accuracy.

I can't envision Chavez being knocked out, and if anyone is getting stopped, it's Armstrong- he cut and he was stopped (I know, I know; not at lightweight)...

I'm curious to see what more posters have to say about this one. I decline to pick a winner.

I'm going back and forth on this 1 Jofre. Chavez has a better offense than anyone Armstrong beat imo. Chavez closes the distance very smoothly, counters well and puts combinations together quickly. He'd be the best inside fighter Armstrong faced and vice versa. Armstrong was great at coming in low through a crouch and bouncing up to land big punches at close range, a range that meant. However I wonder if he will be open to Chavez's own hooks and uppercuts through doing this, although he did move to the side making it harder to land those punches. Still Ambers landed plenty of uppercuts as Armstrong bulled forward so I think Chavez would. Both are great in fighters, Armstrong the more intense of the 2 men

What it boils down to as a great toe-toe contest, in fact I think Chavez will back up and try to counter more than usual. Its a fight I can't confidently pick a winner in but I do think it would be a very close back and forth war. Anyone talking about Chavez being dominated is well off the mark imo

 

I think Armstrong will gut it out with a close points win by dint of his greater workrate and massive heart, but he'll be left looking every bit as smashed up as Meldrick Taylor was after their fight and Chavez will be calling for a 20 round rematch.

Keep thinking of Laporte and Lockridge in their fights against Julio and tend to think that Armstrong can handily trump their efforts to get out ahead on Julio. Of course, Julio, if we're taking him at best will be better than he was for either of those two....

Armstong knocked more men out than Chavez fought despite fighting bigger fighters for most of his career. I don´t think Chavez has the heavier hands. Same for chin, Homicide Hank continuesly fought bigger fighters - and quite a few good punchers too like Garcia, who was even a good puncher at mw - thus proving he had a great chin, at least as good as Chavez´.

I agree. I still pick Armstrong, higher workrate and better defence making the difference. And Chavez would look as beaten up as Henry. :thumbsup

 

On atg list i rate Armstrong higher (i have him 2nd)... BUt stylewise i think Chavez beats him at Lw and probablyJw too.,, THeyd both punish eachother but and it would be close but.. Chavez is one of the most accurate punchers of all time and hed have no problem landing his best shots on the everaggressive Armsrrong.... AlRmstrong could overwhellm and weardown almost anyone,,but Chavezis as tough as they come and would not break or get worn down.... BOdhi says Armstrong had better defense? I dont think so, prime Chavezhad underrateddefense ... Style wise i like Chavez in this one,, very close fight but i can see Chavez tko 14 or 15 or winning a razorclose decision. Ifit goes the distancethough i can seeit going either way.

 

Henry is rated in the top 5 al time by most.

There is a reason for that. I love JC but Henry beat any and all styles in front of him, simple as that.
