Wow!!! The sad part is that there are and will be so many posters that honestly believes this thread is about Calzaghe....when in fact, it about HIS FANS!!! Oh the Lack of Comprehension in the ESBGF is HILARIOUSLY SAD!!!!
I totally disagree. You've got this arse backwards. Was Lacy the prime undefeated superstar many thought at the time? Or was he a decent belt holder but massively overhyped? It works both ways. Some of the credibility of Calzaghe's opponents has risen over time. Some have depreciated. I don't think ignorance is a very strong argument. It logical to garner a better understanding of these fighters based on what they did before and after fighting Calzaghe, not just in the ring against him on the night. :thumbsup
Funny, when Kessler looked bad against Ward...Calzaghe detractors were using it as evidence he was always crap. Kessler beats Froch...oh, now we are back to this. :nut And Hopkins was top 5 P4P and recoginzed Light Heavyweight Champion when Calzaghe beat him. So I guess we got to give credit...
Don't the fans of every noteworthy boxer do the exact same thing? Why are you cherry-picking Calzaghe fans?
Not many people were calling Pavlik just a Slow-footed easy-2-hit fighter before the fight. and if he retired after the fight not as many people would be if he hadnt gone and proven the case to be true again against martinez Like other people have said it cuts both ways and should. Hopkins preached before the calzaghe fight how he has south-paws sussed how he was undefeated against southpaws but you decide to use it as a factor for him losing in your "styles make fights" comment. Im not playing whos the bigger boxing fan with anyone on here, Im a grown man...Im just not going to pretend that i know what a certain boxer is all about after only seeing a few of his fights. an example of this is Pascal at the time of Froch's win. That was the first fight I had seen any of his, yes he looked a decent fighter at the time. But if you cant see that what pascal has achieved after the froch fight has changed how people feel regarding froch's resume, you are being silly. Yes there are many factors for example as you said yourself styles make fights.... but there also countering factors there is also the case if Pascal knocked out hopkins I think it would have made that froch win a little too good and the idea would be that pascal was too green from froch on their first meeting. peoples views on fighters resume's will always change due to fights that take place with the fighters old opponents its logical
Good post, Darryl. If Joe is as great as his fans proclaim, then they shouldn't feel the need to try so desperately to dress up the achievements of his past opponents.
Well I believe on the of reasons fighters consistency levels go up and down when they get older, is because their physical abilities fluctuates from one fight to the next, due to age, which is why I think Hopkins can look so gassed in one fight, then look more energized in another. Holyfield got knocked out against Bowe 3, and before that got his ears boxed off by Moorer, then looked back to his best against Tyson, then he fought like a corpse against Lewis, but then was a lot more active in the rematch, even hurting Lewis at one point.
By this logic the Lacy win's importance just shot through the roof! **** the fact Lacy has done nothing since Calzaghe, because it don't mean ****.
sounds like sour grapes.... all your favorite yank fighters got slapped up by joe... get over it its not joes fault he can slap better than bernard and friends could punch :hi:

What a terrible thread from the embarrassingly illiterate lunatic shemale-deepthroater darryl1914.:rofl:dead:dead Joe Calzaghe = 46 Wins, 0 defeats, 0 draws. :deal Pwned.
See, I would have said Joe set a pace that Hopkins couldnt handle. But you have raised the very valid point that you believe consitency levels go up and down when you are hopkins age. I thought this is what forums were about sharing opinions even arguing opinions but with an objective mind !
