They all would've not only whooped Pascal, they'd have beaten the Hopkins of last night as well. Some of those guys would've destroyed him. Put Bernard in the meat grinder of the middleweight division (he probably wouldn't have lasted long enough to make it up to light heavyweight) from the 20's-50's and he'd be retired or out of championship contention about 10 years younger. Putting him in to the 70's and 80's Light heavyweight division is something only a hater would do. You seem to be resenting Pascal, but let's not forget that Hopkins himself has benefited more from the decline in the level of quality depth than Pascal has. Hopkins would've been successful in any era, don't get me wrong- but there's no way he accomplishes what he did in them. So unless you're willing to knock off Hopkins' all-time standing accordingly, putting all the dissing on Pascal is a bit hypocritical.
Even Froch beat the living **** out of pascal. It's pretty dumb how people now have Hopkins beating the likes of Hagler and Leonard both would have destroyed him.
Great fighters have a certain quality that others simply lack. We saw a very, very clear example of this last night. Pascal basically folded midway through when he had virtually no reason to, and Hopkins, who had every reason - from age, to the knockdowns, to a hostile crowd, and already steller achievements to hang his hat on - trudged on with indomitable will. Pascal, tough and athletic as he may be, isn't anything special. We saw that last night when he was faced with someone who is.
how does it make any difference where it was fought? 3 judges , 1 american, 1 european, and 1 canadian...the american was the only one who scored it different....(or in other words....biased)
On paper, Pascal beating Dawson was mighty impressive. After actually watching the fight, you know that Pascal beating Dawson was not overly impressive. Dawson fought a bizarre, inhibited fight, and Pascal won rounds on activity alone. Even after a fight which was not particularly intense, Pascal noticeably tired in the late rounds, and once Dawson began to find some urgency he started to tool Pascal, and then the fight was over on a technicality. I wasn't impressed by Pascal when he got outboxed by Carl Froch, I wasn't impressed by Pascal in his win over Dawson, and I was anything but impressed by his ****ing dire attempt at a performance vs Hopkins. Conclusion: Pascal received way too much hype for a decent performance vs Dawson and is a mediocrity.
What do you think is worse of these two atrocities then: Saying Castillo beats Duran or saying Pavlik beats Monzon?
Hypocritical? :huh That doesn't even make sense. You want to bring Hopkins into this - but I don't. It's not hypocritical to speak about one thing while neglecting to speak of another. I'm not concerned with Hopkins at the moment, the old man deserved a win even though his own decline is obvious, and that's all I have to say about him. My concern at the present moment is with the state of boxing, the young fighters becoming champions and taking over the mantles of guys like Hopkins, Jones, Mosley etc - and time and again we see the likes of Pavlik, Pascal and Devon Alexander being touted as the next big thing, only to fail dismally in the face of an older fighter with some technique. Is it possible to write about these younger fighters without being hypocritical, if I don't also mention older fighters as well? If I mention the older fighters still active, is that then hypocritical if I don't mention older, retired fighters also? As I said, your post doesn't make sense. If you want to make a thread about Hopkins, go on ahead. My thread was about the performance of Jean Pascal and the similar performances of other fighters of similar age, status and hype.
Jesus, I guess that I (thankfully) wasn't paying enough attention to all of the BS that was being spewed when the Pavlik hype was at its peak. Were there actually people making that claim?
My bad. Your exact words were "45 year old man who hasn't stopped anyone since 2004 and has suffered from clear stamina problems in previous fights due to his age." It must've been Riddick Bowe you were talking about, then. A straw man argument was built (many had Pascal ranked top 10 P4P? Hopkins not knocking out people makes him easier to beat? You rag on his conditioning, yet he only gassed out vs Calzaghe- who you somehow had Hopkins beating by 4 points anyways!:blood) Then, when I mention that Hopkins would've been torn up in the same scenario you put Pascal in and benefits from the same weak era as Pascal does, you play stupid and say Hopkins didn't have anything to do with anything in the first place. Classic. :rofl
no 46 year old should be beating on a 27 year old who just won the championship belt. foremans the exception he fought ali and joe frazier big george does wtf he wants
