2 huge punchers. And I looked at available comp regarding Bute and you are right. McGee on paper is probably the best available contender. So it is a stay busy fight b/c there isn't much out there. As i already stated I just wish showtime would have saved the $ from their already small budget. "Great fights no rights" use to be their model for this exact reason.

Magee has earned his shot and it is likely to be his last horay. While he is most definately a huge under dog I expect him to put in a big performance and this fight could be more entertaning than people think. Magee is no Harrison, he's going there to fight.

Why not? I'd be interested in hearing the list. Magee, sadly, is one of the three best available opponents, but that's not Bute's fault. Everyone else is either tied up, injured, or refuses to fight him.

On a side note, remember Magee was Froch's best win after Pascal & Reid before he entered the S6. Not that it makes it any more credible LOL. "Ranked 8th SMW @ IBF" for Magee only reflects the lack of depth amongst the top 20 SMWs of today.

I agree but they had to sign him up to make sure that he faces the winner of the Super Six because otherwise the Super Six falls apart and you have no guarantee that the winner of the Super Six faces Bute.

To be honest Showtime should just stick Bute in with Ward now, nobody wants to see Ward-Abraham or Bute-Magee so why waste time when everyone knows that they are the best Super Middleweights. But if they don't do that then I can understand this match-up.

That's all true, except that Magee was a better win than Reid, who was completely and utterly shot by the time Froch fought him.

As someone who likes Bute, I'm getting frustrated as well that he's not facing better opposition, but there just isn't much he can do about it. It's not like there are even a bunch of great options at 160 or 175 for a catchweight fight.

Reid was pretty shot by the time he beat Magee himself though.

Think that's the only time I've ever seen someone win on points despite only throwing about four punches in the fight. Every time Reid threw a punch Magee was on the floor....

I understand that to an extent. But Bute had a contract with HBO but b/c SHO had everyone else he was forced to go to SHO. SHO had some leverage and could have used it to rid there airwaves of this. Lets just hope it is a one off.

I kinda agree regarding Ward - Bute. b/c Ward still has to fight AA and froch, killers. While Bute feast on Brinkley's and Mcgee's. Is it an advantage to Bute going in to this fight(winner of S6)?

Yeah, hi Jermain... but what had you done at 168 before Froch? Beaten anyone but a shot Lacy in an eliminator? Yes yes yes, this was only your 2nd fight at 168. Oh, and I forgot you had been rocked pretty hard by Pavlik too...

    :D

Ignoring that Magee isn't British, you can make a pretty solid argument that at least Froch, DeGale and Groves are better. He's definitely a level up from Smigga though.

Unfortunately after this I think we will see him taking on Mendy.

He has a three fight deal with Showtime and the Semi's of the Super Six have still not been announced so my guess would be that they will take place after Bute-Magee. You then have the final which will probably take place August-October. Which will put into place the winner of Super Six-Bute early 2012.
