Tarnished? He's a 45 year old former middleweight champion who beat (unofficially) a prime p4p LHW Champion. I wouldn't call it tarnishing. If he has one more fight like that against another top rated contender then he's only enhancing it.
I dunno man, I was at Alexander-Kotelnik watching my hometown fighter getting his ass beat and I could still tell it was a robbery. And I'm not a professional boxing judge! And REEVO, if anything Hopkins is increasing his legacy like Foreman did, proving the strength of his prime era by remaining competitive today. He outworked a guy with 18(?) years of youth on him? That is a remarkable achievement. And he got up from KD's to do it.
I had Hopkins winning 114-112 but this fight clearly wasn't a robbery. It would only take changing one round from Hopkins to Pascal to make it a draw and there were a few close rounds in there. I thought Hopkins won but a draw is an ok decision. I was totally wrong about Hopkins, I thought he was about done and Pascal's youth would be too much for him. But Hopkins still has a lot left, the Jones fight was just an off night. I came away from the fight thinking Hopkins is still an excellent fighter and I hope he keeps fighting. I also couldnt help but think how could Dawson ever lose to Pascal. Pascal is a good enough fighter but he's not on Dawson's level at all and Dawson should be kicking himself right now.
Time to hang the gloves up, dont confuse what im saying about his legaccy, look after your health your family wont want you to be licking windows.
Point taken, but Hopkins is in pretty good condition. Luckily starting his career so late and being as defensively adept as he is has kept him from absorbing a lot of punishment. I think he should fight one or two more times and then throw in the towel.
What gain has he had except money for carrying on fighting, what beating a shot roy jones and kelly pavlik who was overated anyway. :think
Hopkins is a rare breed , man was born to fight, but im sure he has been advised to hang them gloves up not good at that age.
getting knocked down didn't mean lose! look at klitscho-peter I; klitscho got knocked down more than twice but still fought peter and succeeded to accumulate points and won the fight!
People have short memories. Kelly Pavlik was a clear favorite and was considered the future of the middleweight division. Up to that point had no blemish on his record and leading into the fight Some People thought Pavlik would KO him. He schools Pavlik for 12 rounds and all of a sudden Pavlik is overrated and he's a bum. Hopkins is a savvy fighter who knows how to exploit a fighters weakness. He made Pavlik look bad. He is a "truth-machine" of sorts. Beating a shot Roy Jones, didn't really matter but beating the LHW Champion does.
He was never my favorite and wasnt the future of the middleweight division there were a number of middleweights who would of dealt with Pavlik. :deal
if our judges were not legit, they would have given it to Pascal, like some ringside analysts did. I think the Canadian judge was as unbiased as a judge can be. In fact, the only judge who didn't score it a draw is an American judge, who go figure scored the fight for the American fighter.
