Who do you have, and how do you think it will play out? I think Dawson will have the tape of the first fight to study, and correct whatever mistakes he did, as well as the Hopkins fight. Staying away when Pascal tries to lunge and/or flurry, and using his speed and reach wisely, would result in him taking revenge, and he could look good in the process too. What does ESB think?
This but mainly I feel Pascal has a bigger mental advantage more than anything. More focus, confidence, will to win...Things you expect from a champion. Aside from that Dawson does have skills but he certainly doesnt strike me as someone that has intelligence in or out of the ring. I give him credit for beating Adamek but feel Johnson whipped his ass in their first fight. Pascal is a focused warrior, that will give every last bit till the last bell. I thought he clearly beat Hopkins. Mainly I just don't feel Dawson has what it takes to overcome adversity to comback and beat Pascal.
I can't necessarily disagree with the bulk of your post. I have my suspicions about Dawson, as well, but i think in the ability dept, he is much better, and displayed it when he decided to fight. I don't think Pascal won vs Hopkins at all, let alone clearly. He was very lucky to get a draw.
Dawson WAS also a champion before he lost to Pascal. Why don't you expect 'focus, confidence, will to win' from him too? :think Right. 'Intelligence' is where his TEAM has to come into play, to help him adjust and follow a specific strategy. He doesn't need to be a Calzaghe (adjusti ng during a fight, that is), when he already knows what he's facing. Funny, cause like 90% of the people on here believe Hopkins not only beat, but actually schooled Pascal. I haven't seen the whole fight though, so I can't really say much about it. That's my whole point, though. If Dawson adjusts and fights smart according to his trainer's fight plan, he won't need to overcome any adversity.
I think Pascal has the gameplan to beat Dawson and the ability to implement it. What Dawson has to do to beat Pascal isn't really something that is part of his repertoire. Although Dawson will come in better prepared the 2nd time around, so will Pascal. Don't think that going twelve hard fought rounds against a guy like Hopkins doesn't improve a young hungry fighter like JP. Pascal by decision again. If Dawson tries to get too agressive too early, he gets ktfo
Fair points. I still think Dawson can fight smart, though, and keep Pascal off him using his reach and speed. And have in mind that Dawson was probably on his way to stopping Pascal, before their first bout was stopped due to the cut.
for me, Dawson was nowhere near stopping Pascal. So we saw very different things. I think Dawson blew his load early in that 11th round. He also landed a big left uppercut and completely failed to capitalize. If anything, I think Pascal was gonna close strong
I chose Pascal by KO. I'm a Dawson fan but am worried about where he is mentally right now. He's also been very inactive. My guess is Pascal wins a decision, but I wouldn't be shocked by a stoppage, either. Dawson certainly has the talent to beat Pascal, but will he fight aggressively?
