how come movers are almost considered techical fighters? while pressure fighters

because technical is an overused term in esb.

Apparenly if you can run a lot,I mean a lot, you are technical fighter.

There are defensive fighters who trade in pocket like Toney, and there are those who run and play tag. Both are considered "technical" fighters. There are those who can move but gets hit a lot, like Malignaggi, or Dawson, and they are techincal fighter. so technical is basically an overused term.

It should only be applied to how well they are fundamentally. Example, when he throws a left sraight or cross, does he put his right hand as a high guard, and does he tuck his chin high? That is technique - textbook technique.

But in ESB, it apparently is associated with how quick your feet flies, or how fast your hands go, or how fast you run.

 

If you're African American, you are a technical fighter and the best in the sport.

Everyone else is a goofy whiteboy, one dimensional Mexican, or a PED enhanced Asian.

Or so it seems here on ESB...

People just have a tendency to call some "technical", "skilled", or more of a "pure boxer" when they're faster and don't come forward as often.

Julio Cesar Chavez was aggressive and applied pressure, but he more technically sound than speedy guys like Amir Khan or Shane Mosley. Chavez's feet weren't the fastest but he had great footwork because he knew where to place his feet, and therefore was terrific at cutting off the ring. He had refined in-fighting skills, threw just about every punch by the book, whether it be a singular shot or by combination. He slipped and rolled with shots when he came forward.

 

people consider defense more technical, and offense less so. Not all people but for the most part that's how people see it.

BTW, thanks for saying what was on my mind and probably a lot of other folks' minds as well. I completely agree with you.

My theory is that when a fighter fights like a ***** people call it 'technical'--like it's some sort of next-level **** that you're just not ready for. Because let's face it, there's not much good you can say for a lot of these guys except that they're fast.

Exceptions (guys who are often referred to as technical fighters and actually are):

JMM (for my money, the best technical fighter in the sport)
Hopkins
Mayweather
Bradley
Ward
Adamek
Pacquiao

A true technical fighter can be hella fun to watch if he's got a fighter's mentality. A little power doesn't hurt either.

 

Those that favor speed, quickness, and running as a package, have to have an excuse and a premise to say their guy won........so they call avoidance of boxing related exchanges, "technical brilliance.":nut


.......of course fighters like Duran, Arguello, Chavez, were all technically brilliant fighters.
All aggressive generally come foward fighters who applied the technical nuances of the game.


......while there are those that at times pretended to be technically brilliant, that ran around a ring buying for time and who called themselves technically brilliant.:silly

 

It's sad but true that most of the posters on ESB do not know what "technical" skills really are. For example, I constantly find myself in debates over Carl's Froch's jab. The dumb son of a ***** throws half his jabs off the front foot. Consequently he leaves his chin hanging out, and there is no weight transference AT ALL, but his fans will tell you he has a "great jab!"

Another good one is constantly hearing about what a great counter puncher Abraham is. Waiting for your opponent to stop punching before you throw anything back is NOT counter puching. It is ****ing WAITING!!

I've made the same observation. There is much win in this thread.

 

All boxing is technical. There's just as much depth to the offensive game as there is to the defensive game. You gotta be good in all areas to be a complete fighter.

Abraham is a frustrating fighter to watch. You just want to yell at the screen "let your hands go!!"
