Even Calzaghe fanatics must now admit him or Hopkins isn't even a debate anymore?

For most of us, it's never really been in doubt who ranks higher on the all-time pound-for-pound career greatness scale between Bernard Hopkins and Joe Calzaghe, but of course there has remained a sizeable pocket of resistance on this forum who insist that Joe C should rank higher.

But surely now, if it was even needed, we have had closure on this matter?

Bernard Hopkins, a near 46 year old former middleweight champion, takes on the 27 year old Ring lightheavyweight champion in his own backyard, rises from two knockdowns (the first of which was dubious), and outfights him for the majority of the contest only to yet again be denied on the scorecards.

But the performance, considering all of the circumstances, truly does speak for itself.

This guy is replicating the later career achievements of one of the sport's genuine all-time greats, Archie Moore, and this is coming off the back of one of the longest and most dominant reigns in one of the sport's traditional and great weight divisions.

I ask you: is this really even up for debate anymore? :think

Bhop wins outside the ring (ATG list), Calzaghe won inside the ring.

Calzaghe beat bhop. calzaghe never lost to jermaine taylor twice, infact calzaghe never lost at all. Calzaghe beat a better roy jones than bhop beat. calzaghe would beat everyone bhop beat. so for me im gonna say Calzaghe greater by a long shot.

Would either of the 2 'No' voters care to explain why???

 Now I'm sorry I asked. Dreadful post.

Let me ask you, on that very same basis, does Calzaghe's zero also make him greater than Manny Pacquiao, Roy Jones Jr, Pernell Whitaker, Sugar Ray Leonard, Roberto Duran, etc etc etc...?

Popkins your a good poster trying to convince the rest of the Calzaghe fans who are delusional enough to think Joe is greater i understand this

This is the deal. Joe beat Hopkins fair and square and Hopkins is without question leaving a greater legacy. This would have been true if he retired straight after the loss to Joe.

I'm a Calzaghe fan and i know this is the case i'm simply one of the frustrated Calzaghe fans who believe had he pushed himself to the limit and tested himself then maybe this COULD have been up for debate! And what a better situation that would have been!

    :good

The answer to your question is no. his zero is not greater than those you mention but it is greater than bhops. A prime Jones beats calzaghe in my oppinion but a prime bhop doesnt (even though noyones really sure when a prime bhop is)

Calzaghe is a joke compared to Old-Man Bernard.

Sure BHop is greater, he's an ATG, but Calzaghe beat him and would almost every time...

Hopkins ranks higher easily. I never really thought it was up for debate. I had him beating Calzaghe and even if I didn't I'd still rank him higher.

Hopkins beating Pav. and Pascal are great feats, but they were they both had glaring deficiencies in the skills department. Had Hops. and Calz. never fought, of course Hopkins would be considered the greater of the two, but Hopkins crumpled like a paper cup vs. Calzaghe because he could not handle him. Also take into consideration that Calzaghe came to the states for the fight, and had moved up in weight for the first time in his career. Hopkins success vs. Pav. and Pascal are more indicators of the legitimacy of Calzaghes accomplishments and the shadow he casts forward post retirement. The greatness between the two was settled when they fought.
