Neither should comeback. Kessler with his vision problems and the fact he was clearly ageing, Dirrell because of his neurological problems. Also he's a twat.
Both expressed their desire to come back either via press release or youbetcha, youtube (Kessler). From another thread - Kessler: "I'll be trying sparring again in about 2-3 month to see if my eyes can handle the pressure." From another thread - "Boxing News Thursday 18th Nov 10. Whispers section. Super six casualty Andre Dirrell is looking to return in March."
Dirrell's situation is a farce bought up by Ward/Dirrell camps and Showtime. They signed Bute right after dirrell pulls out and all of a sudden Dirrell is talking about March fight. Him and Bute will face different opponents around March and April and face eachother in the fall coinciding with the S6 Semi final and S6 Finals. The winner will face the S6 winner. Showtime didn't want to waste a good megafight story with Dirrell and Ward fighting to early and also wanted to get Bute a win worthy of facing the S6 winner. So they have things covered regardless of Dirrell or Bute winning the fight. (how yall like this conspiracy theory?) Kessler on the other hand I don't know about. I saw the interview but it wasn't convincing that he was coming back. Hope he does only if he's healthy.
C'mon man Ward didn't have anything to do with it. i cn see Al HAymon telling team Dirrell to use the incident with AA as an excuse to get out the tourney bc if Dirrell loses Haymon can't get him as much $$$ on HBO. But for Ward to be involved to is a bit silly imo.
...that's right, Showtime never wanted to see Ward-Dirrell in 2010. http://www.badlefthook.com/2010/9/6/1672550/showtime-serves-legal-notice-over A win over Kessler would be equally worthy (vs Dirrell) of a fight vs S6 winner.
Nah in 2-3 months..so february or march.. And if that's works fine I figure they will start looking for a fight.. and with training camps etc the fight will probably land some time during summer..
Yeah, you started the Kessler thread yesterday... who are your 3 picks, re: potential comeback fight?
Just answering the question:roll: Kessler: 1) First possibility is the winner of the super six. Kessler is the WBC emeritus champion, and has the right to face the WBC champ who by that time probably will be the winner of the super six. 2) Win or loss in the super six, I think a rematch with Carl Froch is a good option for Kessler. Froch has previously stated that he'd LOVE to have a rematch with Kessler to prove he is the better man. AND financially this fight makes good sense, as both Carl and Mikkel are good draws. Who wouldnt want to see a rematch concidering how good their first fight was. 3) German Sauerland cannonfodder. I dont think Kessler will fight Bute or vice versa..I would be a good fight, but for some reason I just dont see it happening. As for Dirrell.. I dont see him take a big fight right away. He's still young and shouldn't rush it. I think these are very possible opponents for Dirrells return 1) Miranda. Ward beat him. Bute beat him. Both of them are rivals to Dirrell and I think Dirrell should try get a possibly more impressive win over Miranda than either of them had (Though Bute looked quite sensational KOing Miranda). 2) Andrade. Stylistically tt's a perfect matchup for Dirrell. 3) Other journymen.. :thumbsup
LOL it's all good, I was thinking out loud so to speak... as in "yeah, he started the Kessler thread, he's gonna have some to say here!!" S6 winner as a comeback fight? I think he still deserves a shot, but he needs prep/recovery time. Again I don't think Froch is a great comeback fight... fair chance of a rematch in the future, granted, but not as a test back from injury - no way. :bart Pardon? :rofl Somebody on here was saying that a contact @ Interbox was talking about Bute-Kessler as a summer project... can't remember who.
I meant in a slight way with ward. As in he knows but doesn't have to be directly involved or told. I think Showtime may have seen that they didn't want to fight at this time and then they came with a plan for Dirrell to get out of the tourney. Basically after being convinced by someone within who felt that it wasn't the right time also. It seems as if most can see through the inconsistancies with this story. I'm sure showtime has money for investigators to get to the bottom of things. It's been less than 3 months since this brain injury stuff came out and he's talking about fighting in march. I would be very surprised to see him go to HBO even if Haymon is involved. That really wouldn't make sense IMO and showtime would have to sue. But hey, anything is possible.
That was september and before the brain injury stuff came out. The article made it seem like showtime was threatening but as far as what has transpired since, I don't put too much stock in that article. Looking back it seems more of a pacifier (for fans) than a true threat. Dirrell vs Ward was a very interesting match up and fans/haters were really ready to see it. Everything that has happened in the last 3 months doesn't make sense but it will in the next 3 months. If Dirrell is fighting on showtime in March, that will be somewhat proof that they were in on it the whole time. From a business standpoint, it makes perfect sense to do so.
