Griffith should be a serious favourite.

I've NEVER known Griffith to be overrated here in the Classic forum..and in the general forum they probably even don't know who he is. Griffith surely moved up to middle from the welterweight division, being it's three time champion, but he became a very real middleweight..an established middle, and not merely a blown up exwelter champion. He became, from the Paret tragedy onwards an accomplished technician..much more so than anyone Mayweather has ever fought...including the very undersized JMM. It would be quite a new experience for Mayweather.

I think Floyd gets mad underated for strength. He was right there with Sugar who was stronger than Margarito.

But Emile was ****ing freakishly strong.

Let's see....the man who fought Rodriguez, Napoles, Ortega, Monzon, Benvenuti, Briscoe, Tiger, Paret, Moyer, Archer multiple times...versus the man who fought Corrales, Gatti, Marquez, Baldomir, Mosely, Castillo, and Judah?...I'll have to think on this one.

Griffith had those enormous shoulders..hell, he was matching Tiger at times per strength..but he had the good boxing sense to turn boxer vs tiger.

Those guys are pish though McGrain. The skill difference on the inside and at mid-range could compensate for any possible lacking in strength.

Maybe, but it's still a fact as I see it.

People always talk like Floyd is out-muscled at WW. Don't see it. He's as strong as a bull.

Wrong thread to start harping on about it though....

I tend to agree his strength is often underrated actually.

Just that it's easier to look a tank when you're in with old fighters and guys with nowhere near your talent.Mosley as he has done before multiple times, in loses or dodgy wins gave up after a cursory early effort. He didn't look as robust against Baldo, who pressured and gave his best at least.

A lot of discussion has gone on here about Griffith and his record.Often about how he was the benificery of several hometown decisions.

I've learnt a lot about him recently because of those discussions and more film of him being made available.

I don't think Griffith gets to overrated on here..if at all.

What the **** is this question about?

That is just sick and wrong.

Luis Manuel Rodriguez? I'd argue he is a better fighter than Napoles also.

There is a massive difference than underrated strength, and the strength of a strong Middleweight (which Griffith was). Griffith would have the strength advantage in spades here IMO.

    As for this match up.

I think the way to beat Mayweather is to pressure him behind a jab, get inside and swarm him, work the body then come up to the head.

Now I can see Griffith pulling this off, he had quite fast hands and feet that would let him close the distance inside, when he was inside he was immensely strong and very adept at working the body and finding room for head shots further down the line. That big left hook would be catching Mayweather IMO. Taking a wide decision IMO, Mayweather is tough, robust and adaptable so I will give him the benefit of the doubt.

I really don't see what Mayweather can do to win this. I think he is a great fighter, but at Super-Featherweight and Lightweight, up at Welter I feel he is overrated and not great.
