I think Magee will be getting stopped late, Bute hits hard enough if he lands clean he can put anyone down. I see magee getting put down and getting back up at some point in the fight and eventually getting stopped late

What was Bute supposed to do, drop the belt? Brinkley was a mandatory.

Showtime's goal, AFAIK, is to have a WBA/WBC/IBF unification clash after the S6 is over. Bute losing the belt because of a money fight didn't tie up with the plan, so scratch that fight for now. Oh, and Stieglitz can go **** himself too. :smoke

It WILL be the biggest fight in Canadian boxing history. :D

Brinkley was NOT mandatory. He had won an eliminator, but wasnt a mando. The mando was determined when Bika got DQ'ed against Mendy.

Stieglitz can earn big in Germany, so I can understand him wanting to cash in a bit before risking everything. Sartison is another matter. He's not the draw that Stieglitz is although he is the better fighter.

I dont know from where you know what showtimes goal is but it will take a while considering the lineup of opponents Bute has in front of him.

Don't judge too fast.... If you can read in French, you'll soon realize that many people from Quebec are disappointed in the latest fights.

I totally agree it's about time for him to prove himself against the best but lets give it a chance to get sorted out...

By this time, normally Pavlik should have beaten Martinez last April and Bute-Pavlik would have been immediately made.

Sartison initially accepted the INTERBOX proposal when they got the offer because the money was right, not because they suddenly felt like coming for a vacation in North America. They suddenly refused only stipulating that they will make a card of their own in January, therefore won't be available for March.

You claim that Bute avoided Kessler back then but that's incorrect. The chain of events from early 2007 before Bute was champ, to early 2009 when the S6 tournament was being created, show that the fight was never truly possible. Kessler was all about facing Joe Calzaghe for all of 2007 and Bute was gunning for his 1st belt. In 2008-2009, Kessler was having problems with his management and just wanting to opt out until Sauerland comes in the picture... No serious negociations could have been made partly because of those contractual circumstances.

Lets also not forget that INTERBOX wanted to start negociations with Carl Froch for an eliminator fight in order to get a shot at the IBF belt. Team Froch decided to go an easier route style wise and waited a full extra year before getting their shot at another belt (WBC) against a very green Jean Pascal.

Therefore, at this point Bute could have easily fought Pavlik & Froch but that was out of his control....

They are definitely walking on thin ice with their choice of opposition but their intentions are good.

It takes 2 to tango and fights are not made just cause we want them too...

I hate when ppl talk and actually don't know ****. Brinkley was mandatory
    Mendy is the next mandatory.

" Montreal, Thursday, July 8th, 2010 – InterBox is proud to announce that the International Boxing Federation (IBF) has approved the staging of an IBF mandatory title bout between top contender Jesse Brinkley and IBF Super Middleweight champion Lucian Bute. "

So it's OK for Stieglitz to simply cash in, while Bute is bashed on the other side of the Atlantic for his opposition ??? Why the double standards ?

    Numbers.

    1 and 7.

That's defenses for Stieglitz and Bute. (Around those numbers give or take.)

Steiglitz has 3 defenses I believe & Bute has 6 up to now, but at least 2 of those were with a top 10 rated guy in Andrade.

Also, Bute has tried to make the best possible fights for a while now...not Stieglitz.

    I missed this post sorry.

I can hold my own in french although I'm a bit rusty. Yeah I know that real boxingfans knows what is happening, but the average canadian Joe does not.

Yeah Pavlik's loss blew away HBO's plan. Sh!t happens.

The Kessler 'avoidance' happened after Zuniga. Bute was asked if he wanted Kessler next. He answered: "...Eeerrrmmm.... eeeerrrrr.... There are other champions." Kessler had been looking for a big fight without luck for about 6 months and his relationship with his promotor was going south fast. A Bute fight might have rescued it, but given Bute's flat out refusal nothing happened.

Regarding Sartison I read in the french note (forgive me if I'm not entirely correct), that it was mainly a question about money. The way I see it the alleged Universum-card is just smoke since Universum has no television deal and by no means is Sartison a must-have on such a card. Surely it was only meant to give leverage in negotiations, that evidently ended promptly as Magee entered the picture.

As for Froch well what can I say other than he was available and Interbox failed to land the fight. Why? Maybe because the didn't really want it as their confidence isn't great in their man (IMO).

No he was not. IBF did NOT have a mandatory at the time. Brinkley was the highest rated at no. 2.

If you don't believe me check for yourself and get your facts in order son:

    You get my drift surely.

But still I just checked boxrec, and Stieglitz has 4(!) defenses. Damn. Yep it's time for him to step up also although noone considers him a top dog and he doesn't claim to be exactly that.

    Best possible fights. *pppppfffffftttttt'*

Ultimatley i have to agree with the TS but i think politics is to blame here more than Bute , i really liked the idea of Bute Martinez , IMO this was " genuine superfight material " , i dont know why this one went quiet .

Immediatley after Martinez Williams 2 Shaw was quoting Bute as his #1 target , now it seems Pirog is gonna fight Martinez and Bute is gonna fight McGee .

    Its so disapointing

"Bute (26-0, 21 KO) will make his sixth title defense against mandatory challenger Jesse Brinkley (35-5, 22 KOs) on Oct. 15 at Bell Centre in Montreal, Bute promoter InterBox announced Thursday."

"The winner of Bute-Brinkley will have nine months to make a mandatory defense against the winner of the Sakio Bika-Jean Paul Mendy title eliminator."

Why dont you just check the link I provided. It's the link to the IBF. It provides the rankings by month so there's no mistaking possible.

As for ESPN they are quoting a pressrelease from Interbox that is biased in its error. It should be obvious even for a blind nuthugger like yourself.

    Now behave.
