Im more of a fan of those small unofficial tournament deals, involving 4 man at best, see khan-maidana & bradley vs alexander set up. They should have done this at welter with pac-marquez mosley berto, at middle martinez vs dzinziruk & pirog vs sturm. Its easier to do and get good fights done.
I like the S6, think its a good idea but as the 168 tourney has proved there are just too many factors involved with 6 fighters. Too much can go wrong with promoters, injuries etc. I think the 4 man format they have going at Bantam is the way forward. You get the same result as a super six tourney and the ultimate payoff is a lot quicker.
All weight classes and I'd say the entire sport would benefit greatly from more Super 6 style tournaments. They give us great matchup's, drama, and are really fun to follow. That said I don't believe we'll see another Super Six in any division for a very long time, if ever. I know there's supposed to be a Super Six style tournament for Cruiserweights but news of that has been minimal and is already having problems getting going. I think had the super middleweight tournament had fewer injuries, drop out's, and delays we would have seen more tournaments happening and copying its structure but sadly that's not how things have turned out. Truth be told I believe politics is what will keep more tournaments from happening. Fighters and promoters don't want to be locked into something where they have to deal with back to back big fights. As we've seen some of the super middleweights have been exposed by this tournament, something promoters especially would like to avoid. In closing, I think the Super Six tournament is great despite it's multiple set backs and other issues but I wouldn't count on promoters, fighters, and networks committing to future tournaments like it because there is just to much risk involved. ...Oh and for the record, I think the Heavyweight division would benefit most from a Super Six.
I am very disappointed with the bantamweight tournament. Donaire, Montiel, Moreno didn't take part in it. It's probably the strongest division right now and it could be a great event. Super Six in Light welterweight and featherweight also would be very interesting. We're gonna have Super Six or Super Four in cruiser soon. If it's gonna be super four than Huck, Wlodarczyk, Cunningham and probably Hernandez will take part in it.
they should but do it differently, they should do it as an eliminator type tournament next time instead of the whole points thing.
Middleweight should be the next super 4, 6 or 8 with; Martinez Williams Pirog Zbik Sturm Golovkin Lemieux Sylvester and many more but in a different way, after each fight the loser is eliminated that's it
I think it's off. Sauerland hasn't talked about it for months now, and when they were discussing it, they were saying Huck-Lebedev would have been part of the first round. Sauerland controls half of the top cruisers anyway, if they want those guys to fight each other, they can make them fight each other. There might be another style of tournament, but probably not another Super 6. Too much went wrong with the first one.
