Nervous wasn't really boxing well and kept dropping my hands. Got hit with a good right hand fought on and lost a close decision. Was disappointed in myself because i felt like I did everything poorly
Just had my first fight last Thurs. I looked ok, but I didn't throw hardly any punches, just so nerve racking and that nervousness made me tense up and tire quickly. I ate a lot of shots and it ended up being stopped in the last round due to my lip being busted open. It was a good learning experience and I'm really looking forward to getting back in there next month after having gotten that first one out of the way.
Forgot to mention i'm now 23, my fight was quite possibly ten years ago now It's funny the silly things you remember.
I was 13 and 42kg. In Cabra, Dublin. Your man was a traveller and 48kg, he'd had 4 fights and his two older brothers were boxing that night. I was absolutley shitting myself, I remember actually shaking with nerves. My coach hands me the new gear, "Jaysus if ye get beaten atleast you'll look good!" hahaha. He caught me a right in the first nearly killed me. I ended up winning a decision in his club so was chuffed. Added a little swagger to my step that night.
Nervous as a cat in a rocker factory. This was in the late 60's and I had been training for about 4 months. During that time I had sparred with some very good amateurs and also a couple of young pro prospects from another gym, one of which went on to fight Carlos Monzon for the title. Tony Licata was his name and he passed away last year in his mid 50's. I never liked being in front of crowds and with boxing, it's just you, your opponent and the ref. The guy I boxed was a couple years older, a bit more experienced and had enough tattoos to fill the funny papers. I was intimidated-----------till the bell rang and I got hit by the first punch. I may have been nervous and a bit intimidated but I wasn't gonna let him kick my ass. I lost the first round for sure, but took the next two. My gym buddies told me I had him ready to go late in the 3rd but I was too hyped up to realize it. It really was a blur to me and the fight went quickly, but I was flat worn out afterwards. Shortly after that I had suffered a severely dislocated shoulder playing ball and it never healed right. Boxing became a moot point but I still like to hit the heavy bag from time to time to relieve a bit of stress.
Ahh my first fight.. Went horrible -___- LOL, I also noticed how regular it is that everyone picks someone from the crowd of boxers saying "HIM!" and then get into the ring and realize it's not the guy you thought you'd be facing lol.. well that happened with me as well. Not to mention my dad had left my bag of boxing gear at home so I had to fight in my Jordan 11's (sneakers) lol. First round, it was a straight boxing clinic from me.. All types of combination, he landed not even one punch! Everyone in the crowd cheering for me. Second round, I was gassed -___- lol. Kept coming forward as I always do and got caught with a hook that I guess was hard enough to make the referee give me a standing 8. Round continues, pretty even, then he catches me with a hook to which I immediately responded with a right hand lead and a left hook.. I got another standing 8 though. -_____-. Third round, I was completely tired. Just slugged it out. Even though I had gassed early everyone said I won, even the ring doctor came to me saying I had him in my pocket. BUT! I lost. Two weeks later, got a rematch with the same guy, and just took my time the whole fight in order not to gas out.. Won on points. Both fights his cheekbones were swollen after wards. I had probably been training for like.. a month? But I have been boxing like all my life.. I'm 18 now that was when I was like 16, and I havent fought since.. But I'm back in the gym now permanently and will be fighting in the 84th Daily News Golden Gloves, 165lbs.
Boxing club at notre dame, the kid I fought had some golden gloves experience but was a year younger than me. The weights were a mess, nobody at 118 so they threw me with a 125 lber. The chaplain says a prayer and they say, just don't trip going into the ring. My opponent trips going in in front of me and I think, heh heh, I'm going to kill him. I was much weaker at that age than I would be three years later, had not yet reached adult strength and composure. Me from my first fight, weighing about 116 at 5'8'' This content is protected This content is protected We touch gloves and I let go with a flurry right away, a right connects solid and I get him back to the ropes. Then he lands a beautiful, beautiful hard right hand that breaks my nose and I can't see anything the rest of the fight. Just blurry vision but I tried. Here is the online fight description, I think it is funny. Not sure how to change the font color maybe highlighting it will help you read it, from the school newspaper. Don't laugh too hard I got much much much better. There's a big difference between a boy and a man. The biggest difference between that fight and my later ones was I learned how to USE my speed correctly.
The beat down was so impressive they used clips from my fight on the evening news later (we both threw fast and hard punches ... too bad he landed his)! That sucked seeing myself getting pushed from one corner to the other on TV.atsch But you know, TV exposure so early is usually a good sign :think. Okay maybe not.
I had my first novice fight against a ringer. He was seen in previous competitions by guys in our club. I think it's a bit unfair. He beat me but I went the ditance. Everyone saw the gulf in class between us but it felt like a moral victory for me not getting stopped by an experienced boxer. I am too old for boxing proper but for a novice of my age I think I did well. I know this sounds a bit arrogant, but I think not many novices would stand there at the end, being out classed but still throwing back and walking through his punches. My face being a bloody mess.
thats out of order, putting a raw novice in with a fighter as experienced as that.i fought a lad in my 2nd fight who was making a comeback and had had a lot of fights.he couldn't punch though and i just chased him round the ring while he jabbed me.
I was 11 years old, i'd been training for 4 -5 years and youth and inexperience won through on the day of the fight as i was ****ing shitting myself all day. The first round was as bad as i thought it would be, we were both scared and rushed at each other windmilling our arms all over the place, and must have looked like a right pair of dickheads. After the first round i'd burnt up all the nervous tension though and felt much calmer, after that it felt kind of like hard sparring and i was fine for the last 2 rounds. probably a bit too relaxed though as i ****ing lost on points!
