It could, but not in this case.

The rules of the WBA will clearly be set within it's constitution, and a fighter will agree to those when he signs a contract for a fight to contest a WBA championship. When he loses the title or vacates, he becomes free of those obligations.

It's not as if fighters are tied to an organisation like dart players are with the BDO and the PDC.

Infact this is one way (in a dream world) that boxing could move forward. An organisation signs the fighters rather than a promoter and stages it's own shows.

Of course it will never happen......

Yep, that was my first thought, Thats pretty much how the UFC operates in MMA.

 

Well, I can see it both ways.

You can look at the darts example - most of the best players play in the PDC..... it's not as if anyone calls the BDO champion the real champion, is it?

But on the other hand, HBO have already kinda tried this by offering preferential treatment to GBP, and it made both parties look ridiculous.

 

How do you all look at the UFC. As an MMA fan I find it very frustrating but pure boxing fans seem to think they have the right idea.

 

Nobody is getting ripped off because nobody is forcing you to watch or buy anything.

There is nothing technically wrong with what the WBA doing. They're just money grabbing ****s that have devalued themselves.

 

The absurdities of the alphabets should be roundly denounced by the boxing press. They just sweep them under the carpet though. It's no wonder the alphabets prosper.

 

Who would take the WBA to the Court of Arbitration though, the fighters won't because whether its the regular, super or interim champ they are still fighting for a world title.

The televison companies or the promoters won't either because billing a fight as a world title fight always gets more viewing figures and puts more bums on seats.

It all depends on whether the WBA have broken their own rules. Maybe if a fighter is fulfilling his mandatory obligations and yet the WBA still sanction an interim title fight the proper champion can take action :think

 

It's interesting that the WBC's rules refer disputes to the CAS.

Given that they (and the others) aren't really world governing bodies for the sport I'd assume this is a voluntary move on their behalf.

 

I get where you are coming from mate but I was getting more at no-one would take the WBA to CAS about having 3 World Champions in each weight division because its still a World Champion at the end of the day.
