Bute/Andrade I: Many referees would have handled the situation differently.

Dawson/Pascal: Early stoppage. Yes, the cut was bad, but I've seen fighters go on round after round with blood running to their freaking knees.

Hopkins/Pascal: A close but clear win for Hopkins.

Three of the last four major fights in Canada involved some sort of controversy. One would think that the controversial choices by refs and judges would favor the visiting fighter at least once. That was not the case. In every case the Canadian fighter benefited in some way.

Bogus decisions by judges, and incompetent officiating happens all over the world. However, we are seeing a pattern of favortism develop in Canada. Think seriously about one question. If you were a manager or promoter, would you allow your fighter to fight Bute or Pascal in Montreal or Quebec City?

It's a load of bollocks. Sanctimonious Americans trying to paint the rest of the world as corrupt. Scoring boxing matches is highly subjective, thats why there will always be controversy. Bull**** happens everywhere. In Oakland with Ward. At MSG with Lewis. In Las Vegas with DLH. In Nottingham with Froch. Hatton in Manchester. Alexander against Kotelnik was one of the worst examples in recent years.

You would've wanted the ref to stop the fight in Bute-Andrade I for the safety of the fighter (I presume), but you would've wanted the fight to go on in Pascal-Dawson despite the safety of the fighter... make your mind

In Pascal-Hopkins, Pascal won rounds 1 to 4. Pretty much everybody agrees to it. Then there are rounds 5, 8, 10 and 12 that were close. If you give only one of those to Pascal, it's a draw. You can't really score it wider than 114-112 for Hopkins. Is being 1 round off from the most favorable (for Hopkins) logical outcome really a robbery?

You say there is controversy in those fights, but in Bute-Andrade I, the ref applied the rules by the book (see Mosley-Mayorga for a reason why that rule exists). In Pascal-Dawson, the ref made a judgement call (after getting the doctor's opinion). If you think Pascal was about to get stopped, watch the fight again and you'll realise Pascal hadn't been hit with one punch in the last minute of the fight.

Then Pascal-Hopkins. What exactly was wrong in that fight? Referee: Did an OK job. First KD was questionnable, but it wasn'tclearly in the back of the head. Nothing worst than Glenn Johnson KO of Green, and I didn't see much complain about that fight, although Johnson's punch had a much greater effect on the outcome of the fight than Pascal's punch.
Judging: Most people have it 114-112. Disagreeing on one round when 3-4 rounds were close doesn't make it a robbery. If you think the judges that scored it a draw were corrupted, then explain why one of them decided to give the first round a 10-9 rather than a 10-8 despite the KD. He had the right to do it, but if he was corrupted, wouldn't he have jumped on the occasion to give an advantage to Pascal?

Felix Sturm certainly did against DLH and has been hiding back home since then.... No one should blame him as a result...

Just look at Pascal's face after the fight, you can easily tell he KNOWS he lost despite the few, quick and pathetic "victory" salutes.

Quebec is really the only North American province/state where boxing seems to be growing in popularity recently. Taking fights out of there because a couple of iffy decisions is ridiculous. Nobody had the bhop fight wider than 114-112 either way and Bute settled the debate with Andrade convincingly in the next fight. What the **** is everyone crying about?

Maybe all fights should take place in the vast and thriving metropolis known as Youngstown Ohio

In the end, because just a few decisions didn't go the American side, It's a chauvinist and bull**** way of acting like sore losers....

When Paulie Malignaggi robbed Herman Ngoudjo, the Canadian based fighter came back home and said "I'll work hard again to get that title, bull**** decisions can happen."

For many of the big fights in Canada now, there's no more than 1 Canadian judge and the referee is American.

What's the result of having an American referee ??? Please go back and watch Bute vs Brinkley. Brinkley was knocked the **** out 3 times in the fight but that biased American judge gave him all the chances in the world to survive and keep fighting.

He gives the ****in' guy breathers right after giving him 8 counts..:patsch

Canada is just about the fairest place you can fight. Any other country in the world and Pascal as the hometown fighter would've won that Hopkins fight by UD no doubt. Even in most neutral venues, Pascal could have won, though a draw is also a fair outcome.

Also, the ref for the Bute fight followed the rules by the book almost word for word.

Basically, do not send your fighter to fight in Canada if you want things bent in his favour, cause the judges and refs will likely do what's right.

It took a Golden Boy fight between two non-Canadian fighters, Guzman and Funeka, for corruption to be brought here.
