there are hundreds if not thousands who you could name.narrowing it down to nationalities or even their regions wouldn't make it too hard.
you could name them by their weight divisions or even restrict it to hair colour.
i saw lads when i boxed as an amateut who displayed a lot of heart.
i was impressed by primo carneras heart amongst others

    Very true turpinr...

Actually I think it's disrespectful (and impossible) to try and assess whether, for example, Smokin' Joe showed more bravery in Manila than, for example, Hoyfield did in his contests or Marciano did in his contests...they, and many others (some mentioned here and some not) showed bravery above and beyond the call of duty and should all be accorded the utmost respect.

The Ali-Norton broken jaw fight was a 12 rounder not a 15 rounder.

I think, with respect, the Ali broken jaw issue is up for debate, insofar as we can't be sure when Ali's jaw was broken. Ali and his camp claimed the jaw was broken in round 2 - Norton claims it was the 11th or 12th (I can't remember which to be exact). I tend to believe Norton - Kenny always seemed to be an honest guy with no axe to grind, but it wouldn't surprise me if Ali's camp claimed the injury occurred earlier in the fight in order to enhance the legend of Ali!:good

i always thought dave boy green got 10/10 for bottle.in his last fight when he had nothing left he called his manager a ******* for stopping the fight.
greens manager, andy smith, deserved credit for realising that green was finished but green didn't agree.

Is that right about Ali Norton? What is the consensus on Ali's broken jaw?

I'd still go for Ali. He showed tremendous heart his whole career - V Frazier and Forman in particular.

Ali's conduct outside the ring regarding Vietnam, Islam and civil rights etc also showed great heart particularly given the social attitudes of the day. What a man.

Nelson took some legendary beatings but always came back for more. Gans is one fight, but the guts was arguably more evident in the Wolgast fight where Nelson was halted by the ref in round 40 after a prolonged brutal beating.

As for the thread options I reckon it's Ali with Frazier coming in second. As for Ali then perhaps he showed the biggest heart when 'fighting' Holmes.

Futch reckons it was the 10th, but who knows? What we do know is that Ali was full of fairy stories and his camp lied about it anyway, initally claiming it happened in Round 1, then changing it to the 2nd. But, of course, Ali's the only fighter in history who's fought on with a broken jaw. :!:

How about Matthew Saad Muhammad? He won many of his fights on heart alone. I love Hagler but he showed disinterest in the Leonard fight. The Hearns fight is a better example of his heart as is the Mugabi fight.
