I went much quicker today, and even though I counted to forty I feel this bend to my arms at about 35 I need an outside observer to see if the form stays strict, because the tiring part of the motion is not the middle its either holding it at the top or going all the way down so only weaker tendons are in use. Not a big fan of the whole complete range of motion when its possible to get a whole lot of strength in middle motion exercises.
You shouldnt lock your joints anyways so normally I would pull with a slight bend left. 40 is very impressive.
You don't lock your joints if there's an abrupt stop which could cause damage. If you are doing pullups correctly the lowering phase is a controlled process, you should go to lock out every time. If you are dropping every rep then learn how to do a pullup properly. I'm still having difficulty believing these numbers being posted.
I think a lot of it is because of this: People can do multiple sets of sub max and are assuming what their max is. Doing 3 sets of 10 or 12 is pretty decent, but it doesn't mean someone can do 20+ straight. I can do 5x5, but I know my max at the moment is about 8. Someone doing sets of 10, 8, 6, 4 probably has a max of 12-15
The numbers arent that unbelievable, a lot of it comes down to weight and training experience. I'm 140lbs at 9-10% bf, naturally I'm gonna have an advantage with bodyweight exercises. I've been training in the gym for 8 years now, but my pullup numbers are **** as I don't train them enough. To be good at pullups you have to do a hell of a lot of pullups. Whenever somebody posts a routine on here I never see pullups included, yet everyone is apparently amazing at them. That's not really true. Just because a guy weighs 120lb doesn't mean he'll be able to do 20 pullups easily, he'd need to train just as hard as everyone else to get there. Ross is very intense and consistent with his training. It wouldn't suprise me if he said he could do at least 30, still not as good as some of the bullshitters in this thread, but you know how it is.
Ross is a beast. I doubt the majority of people here train as hard and consistently as him. Busting out high pull up numbers is something that needs to be trained for. Lighter guys with low body fat that are fit and train with weights might naturally be able to do an impressive number of pull ups without training specifically for them, but once you get above 20-25+ I start finding it hard to believe, unless these guys are training specifically to pull high numbers.
Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a bunch of the guys here can do exactly what they claim, but I'm sure for every one of them there's a half dozen that are talking out their arse. No way there's 40-something people in this thread that are able to perform 20+ strict form pull ups, let alone 7 that claim to be able to do 40+
40+ is difficult but not impossible. Id be willing to bet I could probably get to that within 2 months of training.
I didn't say it was impossible, just that it takes some seriously dedicated and specific training, and that I find it very hard to believe that there are so many people in here capable of doing it.
2nd thought, 40 is double of what I can max out now, I'll try 30 To be fair 7 out of about 100 voters is not that many, and probably about 3 or so is talking out of their arse. I would think Aramini is probably being honest in being able to do 40 though.
This is an old video from like four years ago, and the form is shite shite shite, so I know these don't count. I was MUCH MUCH more strict with the twenty count I gave, where every rep was all the way down, no swing, stop, all the way up, stop, etc. With forty I was less strict and took less time, but I need to sneak a video into the gym because they will look WAY WAY better than these ones, I promise you. I am stronger now. This video is not indicative of any form I have used in my pullups in recent memory, just so you can see how I used to "cheat" into them, and I promise I was much more full in my range of motion for the twenty I listed. Those were completely and utterly legitimate. These thirty something here are sloppy because I wasn't even thinking about full range at the time. They are after the one handed pushups.
