    Which heavyweight in history defeated the most Top 10 contenders, and can you please list the names of the Top 10 contenders they defeated?

    I'll hazard a guess that Joe Louis defeated the most Top 10 heavies. :think

    NOTE: The opponent must have been in the TOP 10 at the time they fought.

    He would be up there i would have thought, but i will guess at Jack Johnson, if there were ratings during that time.

    Thats quiet a list for a guy who never won the title. Just a pity he was about at the strongest period for heavyweights IMO

    It depends on whose top 10 list we're talking about.

    Ok. I don't know.
    I think you'd have to have every issue of Ring magazine, or a list of every month's rankings to know the answer.

    I'd guess it's Ali or Louis.

    I would happily compile lists of how many Top 10 fighters Ali or Louis defeated, but the problem is, as you alluded to, you need to have monthly heavyweight rankings. It won't be accurate to compile data just based upon year-end heavyweight rankings, like these;

    http://boxrec.com/media/index.php/The_Ring_Magazine's_Annual_Ratings:_Heavyweight--1920s

    So, if anyone can find me a link to the monthly heavyweight rankings from the 40's, 50's, 60's etc I would be able to do this myself.

    Ali holds the record, closley followed by Louis. I forgett the exact numbers, but they both beat in excess of 30 ranked contenders.

    I don't think that any other heavyweight champion broke the 20 mark.

    I think the term "Ranked' is a little easier to distinguish than 'Top 10'.

    For instance, is Jean Pierre Coopman considered a 'Top 10' fighter, or
    a 'ranked fighter'.

    Presumably we take it to mean "ranked in the top 10 by Ring Magazine rightly or wrongly".
