Tyson Prime VS Lewis Prime This is a hard one and one that could go either way! Tyson in his prime, the early 80s could have ko many top fighters but lewis in his prime had the style to cope with tyson and outbox as he done when they did fight. It would either be Tyson by Ko inside 2 rounds, or lewis by a ko around round 7-10
Lewis beats any version of Tyson, he had the physical strength to push Tyson back and not allow himself to be bullied around the ring plus a great jab and uppercut which both gave Tyson problems. The first few rounds would see a few hairy moments for Lewis though, and providing he gets through them I reckon he'd wear Tyson down and stop him around 9,10,11 or 12
It took only one punch from Rahman or McCall to get Lewis KO'd, Briggs had him in trouble and Mercer took him to the limits... and yet you give Tyson no chance at all? It is simply not fair. Holyfield would be much tougher fight IMO and I would also favour Holy over Tyson any time, but still, I would give Mike serious chance against younger version of Holyfield (Bowe I and before), when he was happy to go into exchanges and spend too much energy in the ring.
You could add Bruno as well to that list. He was totally dominating Lewis. Also factor in that prime Tyson had the second fastest hands in heavyweight history (recorded as 0.01 sec slower than Ali - source is documentary called 'The 5 laws of Muhammad Ali'), amazing head movement, explosiveness, great chin. Even Ali said that Tyson would win if Ali and Tyson had fought each other (said on the Arsenio Hall show back in the late 80s).
Tyson would get jabbed to death and possibly even stopped, whenever Tyson got up close he would just be tied up or hit with that monster Lewis uppercut. At the same time it would be stupid to say that lewis wouldnt get rocked in the early rounds but his physical strength and size would allow him to tie Tyson up with relative ease. People get so caught up with Tysons speed and power they forget that at the end of the day, he is tailor made for a fighter like lewis.
Holyfield was old as **** and wasn't an inside fighter. Tua was overrated. Styles make fights. Tyson has the style to give Lewis a lot of problems. Look at round 1 of Tyson - Lewis. An old, fat shot Tyson made Lewis scramble around the ring like a scared deer. Lewis would have to Keep Tyson off of him to beat him and that was next to impossible with a young , prime Tyson. He had great head movement, and more importantly he was fast as hell. He was very hard to time to with clean punches. Tyson also had an iron chin. Lewis would have to batter him to get him out of there, and Tyson would only need one clean shot to shake Lewis up.
I've recently changed my opinion about this and now I'm leaning towards Tyson by ko. Mercer was able to get inside Lewis surprisingly easy. I think a young Tyson, with his speed and head-movement, would too. Lewis' chin is underrated but I don't think he can stand up to a furious body and head assualt that Tyson could unleash on him.
Lewis easily. Tyson the most overrated fighter of all time. Never beat anyone worth a ****. Knocked out by numerous tomato cans.
So true:yep I think i will go with the classic one. If Lewis survives the first 4 rounds, Tyson is doomed!
