the version of lyle who fought foreman in the era of marciano.

  1. what do you think? how do you see him in this era? i think that he would have chance to be the champ once.

was he stronger, bigger, faster, more muscular than marciano? absolutely.
could him hurt marciano seriously? no doubt in my mind.
was he stronger than any fighter of the era of marciano? absolutely.
he could fight and he could punch,he could take a great shot, he did show it against foreman and shavers.marciano was not a fast counterpuncher like quarry or a smart stylist like young.
anyway i am pretty sure that lyle would give the hell to marciano. lyle would ko moore. charles and walcott were not in their prime, lyle might well beat them. and lyle would absolutely destroy old louis.
maybe he would not have been a belt holder during long time but maybe he might be the champ once. what do you think?

He loses to Charles, Walcott and Moore ... oddly based on styles Rocky is far and aay his best shot at victory although he likely gets stopped late in a very interesting fight .. at some point Rocky lands the overhand right and Lyle freezes up ...

  4. it is a decent point, but noway archie had the chin to take the shots from lyle. charles and walcott would have his chance but lyle would have chance to beat them too, they were not in their prime.
i think that lyle would have been the champ during a short time

All 3 of those could outbox him BUT I don't think they would. Walcott outboxed Louis so could do the same to Foreman been ko'd by the 3 biggest punchers he faced and this would be the biggest with loads of height/range/workrate into the bargain

Charles went 1-1 with Valdes (correct me id Im wrong) who was similar for Foreman but several classes below him, he was ko'd twice before he fell off and again hes in with the biggest puncher he'd have faced

Moore couldn't keep Marciano off him and Foreman fought at a similar pace, he didn't have an easy win over Valdes either. I also don't think his chin is good enough to take Foreman's bombs

Having said all that 1 probably would upset him

  6. we are talking about ron lyle, not foreman.a prime foreman would clean the era of marciano

Oops, I read that wrong  yes those 4 most likely all beat him, he may score a win over 1 of them though

  8. really i am surprised because lyle gets almost no credit ,in my opinion he would beat guys like ruddock, tommas, berbick, rahman,,mccall, spoon, tillis, james smith, AND HE WOULD KO MORRISON,

It's been a while since we've had a thread about UBER-fighter Lyle, the greatest heavy of his or anyone's era.

come on man.. the spoon decisions him hands down.

And to the question I think Lyle would fight a slugfest with Marciano until Marciano's stamina and power becomes too much for Lyle and stops him late in the fight. Moore had the punch, slickness and defense to make Ron Lyle look silly. same with Walcott and Charles. Young and Quarry didn't take that many flush shots from Lyle. they used their defensive skills to avoid a lot of his punches. when you consider the beating Charles took from Marciano you have to give him the benefit of the doubt that he would do the same against lyle. I think Lyle probably gets defeated by all 4 of them

Don´t forget Jimmy Young or Jerry Quarry. They were better than the champs of most other eras, they were just unlucky coming around at the wrong time. :deal

Truth. that's the truth. the division was just too deep for them to become champion

yeah but guys like Razor, Pinky, Berb, The Rach, McCall, Spoon, Quick, Bonecrusher and Tommy were most definately NOT Jersey Joe Walcott, Ez Charles and Archie Moore - not even sure Lyle beats all of the former either - again I think this is another case of unempirical reasoning - IE your mind is already made up (incorrectly) that the 70's was far beyond any other era and guys like Foreman were far far beyond any other fighters in history - so automatically because Lyle had an awesome slugfest with Big George you elavate him to a ridiculously high plateau

In reality Lyle was incredibly limited (as were the prime Foreman and Shavers too - Shavers really really limited) - Walcott, Charles and Moore would make Lyle look like an amateur in my book - yeah Lyle wasn't a respecter of reputations and he could throw some mean leather but come on Walcott, Charles and Moore all schooled vastly superior fighters to Lyle

Personally I think the Louis Marciano beat has a decent chance against Lyle.
