Juan Manuel Marquez wouldn't have been even remotely competitive with Manny Pacquiao north of 135lbs? ...We agree on this, yeah? I'm not happy about the Mosley fight, but Marquez wouldn't have been any more of a competitive match up. Not really.

    Opinions?

Yep. He looked sluggish with the extra weight against Mayweather, and would have copped a beating against Pacquiao and possibly have been Hatton'd.

    Yes, absolutely.

I can't understand some of the comments surrounding the matchup. Pacquiao would stop him inside of a couple of rounds i believe.

If fighters like Diaz and Katsidis have been hurting Marquez and giving him trouble, Pacquiao would take his head off. As great as the Marquez - Katsidis fight was, and as gutsy as Katsidis is, the fight showed how vulnerable Marquez would be against Pacquiao today.

The even more confusing aspect of the discussion are the references to 140 pounds making the fight more competitive, people don't seem to realise that Pacquiao is not even a large 140 pounder, and would have to drop a particularly easy amount of weight to come into the limit comfortably. He could do everything he wanted to in training camp and would only have to drop 5 or 6 pounds to make weight, thats childs play for any professional fighter.

    Absolutely even at 140lbs.

I don't think it would've been any more competitive really, because I expect Pacquiao to slaughter then stop Mosley, and I believe he would've slaughtered then stopped Marquez.

However, if I had to choose between which fight I'd rather see, I'd have gone with Pac-Marquez III. At least JMM's counterpunching poise might have provided a few exciting exchanges. Mosley is too old, slow and timid now, he is going to have his head used as a speedbag until Naazim (or Bayless if he is the ref) rescues him.

He looked pretty good weighing in at 145 or w/e against Katsidis. Pacquiao weighed in 148in his last fight. Why is this a problem? I don't think the weight is the problem. I think the direction of both fighters since the fight has been a problem. Pacquiao continues to improve. And while JMM looked awesome against kats, i didn't feel the same way about Diaz. I think Pacquiao would **** him up.

i agree. prove himself first at 140 then we can talk. surviving floyd for 12 rounds at 147 is a big deal when hatton could not do it but when it comes to pac's current form, this is not enough. the only way people thinks 140 is a bit competitive is because they are hoping that pac would be a little drain at 140.

You think Pacquiao will stop Mosley? I still feel that's quite a bold call to make, even at this stage. Are you thinking more in terms of over-rawing him with combinations when he's exhausted and a mercy stoppage from the ref/corner? Or do you think he'll genuinely have Mosley badly hurt at some point?

EDIT: Somehow missed the last part of your post. That's a possibility. Although I think given Margarito went the distance after taking hundreds of power shots, I think Mosley will. He's still leaky defensively but miles better than Margo and I feel he has as good if not a better chin.

Yeah, perhaps it would have been more intriguing to see the Marquez fight, but Katsidis was landing consistently in every round and decked the Mexican great with one left hook. Juan Diaz was having success in the rematch and even saw the distance. Marquez is not as good as he was whereas Pacquiao is on a whole different planet. One gentleman has already suggested that Marquez would be in danger of getting "Hatton'd". Absolutely, the mismatch would be outrageous.

At the lower weights they were almost even nut at welterweight Manny would be 148 while Marquez 144 and thats a bad weight for him.

As a Pacquiao fan, I would not be averse to seeing him knock out his most difficult opponent. Although of course I would've preferred the fight to have been at 140, in an ideal world. But **** it, it's not happening, so I reluctantly look forward to the Mosley fight.

Mayweather is the only man capable of challenging never mind defeating Pac, thats why arum has avoided this fight at all costs.

Im not interested in any other fight involving these 2 pricks, they have dragged this sport thru the toilet for far far too long now, they should both have their boxing license suspended until the fight each other.

    Thats all !
