First let me say I don't think my cousin can win. The Mora fight was the first fight in which afterward I felt Shane was old and needed to retire. I will say though that I thought Mora from the beginning was a terrible choice in opponent. He is tall, extremely defensive, and not shy about holding.

Now with all that said I believe Shane's only chance at making this a "COMPETITIVE" fight at this stage of his career is the following:

    1. Let the Pacman; No "MAKE" the Pacman come forward. Pac likes to come forward but when he is in control he comes forward at very advantageous angles to himself. But if he is forced to reach he tends to "SQUARE UP" totally "NEUTRALIZING" his southpaw stance.

This doesn't mean Shane needs to dance around the ring. All Shane needs to do is "CONSISTENTLY take a step back & to the side every time Pac steps forward.

Shane also will need to use his "JAB" as his main scoring weapon. Some will "IMMEDIATELY" cry foul at this suggestion. You will say, "Shane doesn't have a jab!" Yes he does. And guys like Morales and Margarito have shown that your jab doesn't need to be Holmes like. ****, Margarito's jab comes out like a "WAVE". But Margarito's slow jab hit Pacman "CONSISTENTLY" every time Margarito threw it.

Now why should Shane step back and let Pacman come forward? Because it is the best way to "NEUTRALIZE" Pac's southpaw stance. The stance will only "MAGNIFY" itself when you are chasing the southpaw around and he is giving you all kinds of angles. But if the southpaw you are fighting is "PRONE" to being overly aggressive, and "SQUARES" himself up often when he fires a combination, it only makes sense to make him come forward.

Because Shane is taller, has a significantly longer reach, and still has quick hands himself. He doesn't need to have the best legs at this stage of his career to execute this plan. Shane is just trying to create the need for Pac to come forward and reach at times.

Once Shane establishes his jab then he will be able to hook off of it. Unlike PBF, Shane has never been very adept at right hand leads....NEVER.....NEVER EVER! But Manny is actually very susceptible to left hook counters. The left hook as a counter punch is the KEY explosive punch for shane in this fight.

Why? Because I believe he throws a much better lead hook and counter hook than he does a right hand. He has better timing with it. Shane should use his right hands down at pacs body in uppercut motions when Pac is trying to flurry. Besides Pac is going to be looking for the right hand all day and all night.

Now something else that is important for Shane to do, is to make Manny punch less. Marquez accomplished this at times by forcing Manny to be hyper aware of being countered. Shane can't do it that way because he "HAS NEVER" been as good as Marquez at that type of fight, and because currently he doesn't have the reflexes.

But he still can counter Pac, but he must make them telling blows. If Shane can't hurt Pac then he can't keep the fight competitive. And I don't mean stun him, I mean Pac eyes get big kinda hurt and his own survival instincts kick in. Undoubtedly Pac may get stunned, and when this happens you can bet your last dollar Pac will try to come back immediately with flurries of punches.

THIS IS KEY.....SHANE MUST DO THIS IN RESPONSE: When Pac tries to flurry up top Shane must fire right hand and left hand uppercuts to the body. No more than two or three at the very most. Then he must use his shoulder to push Manny up against the ropes, tie him up, and crowd him to the point Manny can't get room to punch. Much in the same way he did to Margo.

NO ONE HAS DONE THIS TO MANNY......they always give him room. He isn't PBF. You can crowd and smother him on the ropes.

So to recap: Shane when in the middle of the ring, should make pac come forward, take advantage of his height and reach advantage. Use the jab more than ever as a point getter and range finder. Look to use the left hook as the explosive lead and counter punch to pac's lead left. Stop pac's flurries by going to the body when he begins them, then immediately tie him up and force him to the ropes, where you rough him up, and smother him.

DO NOT TRADE WITH MANNY EARLY! I REPEAT DO NOT TRADE WITH MANNY EARLY. It will only lead to Shane being KO'D. If he ever gets pac down closer to his speed then look to trade because SHANE DOES HAVE THE BETTER PUNCH and the BETTER CHIN. But Shane can't afford to lose any strength in the fight because I don't think he will get pac to slow down.

I don't expect him to be successful enough because I expect pac to make adjustments and recognize the danger and to stay clear. I expect pac to find a way to win a UD after realizing that Shane can be dangerous if he is careless.

Shane should take small steps backwards to mess with emmanuel's range, Shane did it against marg, and Marquez did it to emmanuel. Good job on noticing that.

Bodyshots will be important too, that's one of the better ways to get to emmanuel.

What do you think of the clinch game for Mosley? I was watching the marg fight, and Shane kept landing all kinds of crazy bodyshots inside of the clinches. marg was just clueless and looking stupid when Shane manhandled him inside of the clinches. We all know emmanuel can't play the clinch game for ****.

Shane can not fight going backwards and can not snap a jab that could kill a house fly. He's never shown the ability to do either, it's crazy to think that he could now.

The only shot he has is to smother Pacquiao, push him against the ropes and hope to hand a haymaker in exchanges.

^ This Shane is just not the guy to execute this plan, and Pacquiao isn't going to be led around the ring like a pony and jabbed to death. He's learned from his past mistakes with Marquez and Morales. He knows how to cut the ring off now, and he doesn't reach in and throw himself off balance like he used to.

Shane just has to be the old Shane, and rip shots to the body and try to use his reach as much as possible. Don't just pressure Pac but box with him in the middle and get your shots off, and get away before he returns fire.

Ultimately shane is too slow and old to beat Pacman though. Pac will outbox him, outfight him, and make him look old from the opening bell.

I say go for it when you can, but its pretty hard to clinch a moving target. That's why I say use it in response to pac's flurries because when he is flurring he aint moving.

Shane can fight going forward and backwards and has always been able to do so. You need to go back and watch his fights. He took steps back against Margo. And Shane had a very good jab as a lightweight and he used his jab against DLH in the first fight.

But like I said, it doesn't have to be a Holmes jab. Margo's and Morales don't have great jabs but they both used theirs affectively.

Smothering pac is a good idea like I said in the post, but EXCHANING ISN"T A PLAN.....its what you do when you have run out of ideas or have NO CHOICE!

You don't try and lead him around the ring. You are just trying to score points and neutralize his offense for parts of the round. You want to slow the fight down.

And manny does still reach and square up just not habitually like he use to.

And Shane can't just be the old Shane because he is an "OLD" Shane.

Good post TS. If Shane did these things naturally, I would give him a shot, even in his current state. But, he seems to fight based more on his instincts than on his IQ, a lot of times. And he seems way too in love with his power, sometimes. Nazeem will provide elements of your gameplan, I'm sure. It just makes sense. But, when/if Manny adjusts to this approach, will Shane be able to adjust? I just don't think so. But, I am rooting for Shane, just the same.

He won't do this. And for those that think Shane now has stamina problems.....YOU ARE WRONG. Shane in the floyd fight was just to nervous and hyped and that got him winded. If Shane is relaxed for this fight and I think he will be because he knows pac is a threat to KO him like Margo was a threat, then I suspect his stamina will be fine.

Shane has nothing to lose in this fight and everthing to gain.

ALL THE PRESSURE IS ON PAC! And the MEDIA will let Pac know this the closer the fight gets.

You are right about Shane not using his boxing IQ lately.....and that really bothers me. For example, he didn't try and bang on the inside with the likes of Holdiay or Brown. And both those guys were smaller, had no punch, and it would have been the easy thing to do.

What did he do? He used his jab, movement and kept both on the outside. That took work and focus even though he could have beat both on the inside. Naz must make Shane use his head in this fight in order to be just competitive, because Shane has CLEARLY gotten old.

He isn't shot but he is old. And he will be shot if he doesn't adapt to being an older figher. Some can and do, some can't and get KO'd.

I think Shane will, and will lose by decision. I hope he can put a scare into the all the pac fans.

But even though I am a PBF fan.....I can't stand his fans so to be honest the thought of Shane beating Pac and then having to listen to the PBF fans go on about how pac isn't **** makes me want to puke at the prospect.

Right...I agree with your assessment of the fight.

But, if Pac dominates Shane, worse than Floyd (will be tough to do w/o a stoppage), you will hear Pac fans (not all...but most around here) go on and on about it...despite the fact that Shane looked worse prior to this fight (similar scenario with Oscar), than he did against Floyd. So...choose your poison now, I guess. ;)
