Some may disagree but I think Hopkins defense and counterpunching looked brilliant this nite even though he didn;t get the decision. Nobody I've ever seen shut Cazlaghe's punchout put down the way Hopkins did and hit him with as many cleans shots as Hopkins did. He even beat Calzaghe on the inside, he held Calzaghe to pitty pat shots, most which didn't land. To me this was B-Hop's most techinical fight, a fight that the world knows he should of won, even Joe knows it, which is why he made many excuses for his performance and didn't grant Hopkins a rematch, he knows.

You're not going to get a bigger BHop fan then me, but his output near the end of the fight was non-existent he simply didn't finish strong or even moderatly strong he finished pretty **** poor to be fair and though he was 114-113 on my card his lack of work cost him in the end. Calzaghe win = well earned on his part.

He didn't really need to by that point, he already had the fight won, Calzaghe needed a knockout. Calzaghe outhustled him, but hopkins already knew he had it won, which he did. And why take stupid chances with a guy who throws punches tpo try and steal rounds which calzghe's style, he fights just like an ameuter. From rounds 1-10, it was a brilliant B-Hop, the last 2 rounds Hopkins coasted and Calzaghe only outhustled but still couldn't dominate Hopkins the last 2.

    Completely ******ed thread.

Hopkins looked solid the first 3 rounds when he had good stamina and had the legs to move around. As in any of his fights, he was the master of controlling distance and range. He limited Calzaghe's output and landed some hard, flush right hands via the counter or the lead. But after that, it was pretty much Hopkins running and holding and faking low blows to catch a breather because Calzaghe's pace was too much for Hopkins.

Now maybe had he been 35 or so, he might've had the stamina to continue his impressive start but he didn't. So it wasn't his best tecnical fight, not even close.

That's in your eyes, I've seen the fight many of times and a lot of the things hopkins did in that fight was subtle, and all the holding you claim he was doing is all skill and it takes skill and craft to do it. Holyfield did the samething to Tyson(and he was using his big head to) but I don't hear anybody making excuses about it. It's big difference between stragic holding and holding to survive.

This is why Hopkins is hard to fight his back and back and in with head at same time as throwing a punch.

:rofl exactly but am I right? Nobody ever talks about that, they make it seem like Hopkins is the only fighter in history that fights like that, Hopkins is the bad guy and the guy to hate. You can see that because he always gets done wrong on the scorecards in big fights, judges wanna make sure the fight is close, so they can give it to the other guy.

Hopkins hit Calzaghe with some NASTY headbutts during this fight, no doubt intentional.

You are a first class idiot.

I never said it was illegal or that I disagreed with it, I pointed out that this plays a part in why he is hard to fight.

Are you going to disagree with manny on that then ?

Calzaghe beat Hopkins due to stamina and stamina alone. Don't be duped by the "Calzaghe master adjuster" line, because it simply isn't true. He was walking into the right all night and didn't adjust one bit. The only thing that won him the fight was his great work rate against Hopkin's ever decreasing work rate. That's it. Not skill. Not ability. Not speed. Work rate/stamina, and that is it. A fresher Hopkins would have comfortably beat Calzaghe and that is undeniable.

You didn't Illustrate your point right by the sentence you wrote, so a person is gonna interpret it different if you don't explain it right.

But everyone uses those excuses for Calzaghe's **** poor perforemance not looking at the fact that Hopkins uses those tactics for everybody he fights, even when he was at his best. He's a master tactitian.

You have to say having seen Hopkins beat Pavlik and and draw with Pascal that Calzaghe's win , and he did win , looks a lot more impressive.

Hopkins was pure quality throughout the entire fight, just pure brilliance from a 43 year old man against a 36 year old. Hopkins landed the right hand at will cleanly the entire night, he visibly hurt Calzaghe many many times. Hopkins clearly landed the cleaner harder punches.

Calzaghe was lucky he didn't go down multiple times in that fight, he escaped with a very thin decision, there's no doubt in my mind he would lose a rematch.
