Do you consider Tyson the youngest Heavyweight Champ ever?

    My thought is yes since he dominated after winning the WBC. Had he failed to unify it would have been different in my mind.

    Thoughts please.

    He was after all the youngest WBC holder OAT.

    Cassius Clay was not much older when he ko'd Liston to win the title. That's a much much tougher fight than a Trevor Berbick. By the time Tyson unified the titles, he was older than Clay.

    Another question is who was the youngest guy to lose the heavyweight title?

    • 20 years and 145 days- Tyson wins WBC Heavyweight title by beating Berbick
    • 21 years and 32 days- Tyson unifies WBA/WBC/IBF Heavyweight titles by beating Tucker
    • 21 years and 331 days- Patterson wins vacant title by beating Moore. Patterson is the recognized champ as both the NYSAC (becomes part of the WBC later) and NBA (later WBA) recognize him as champ
    • 21 years and 363 days- Tyson wins linear title from Spinks

    Make of it as you will.

    Tyson was the youngest to lose the title, that is beyond dispute. It is an interesting arguement if it was Tyson or Patterson who is the youngest, because the first title Tyson won was a paper title, but than again Patterson won the title in the wake of Marciano's retirement.

    Ali's win at 22 over Liston was a huge acheivement, but I think Foreman's win over Frazier at age 23 is even more impressive.

    Agreed.

    The Ali and Foreman wins are leagues ahead of the Tyson and Patterson victories. Tyson and Floyd had nice wins alright, but at the end of the day that's all they were--nice wins. Floyd would've needed a tko Marciano type result instead to be in that discussion & then it sure would make things interesting.

    It sure does look like it will be a long long time before youth wins the championship again--even in the world of 4 belts......

    Anyway you cut it, slice it, dice it or spin it, the end result is the same; The youngest to win the world heavyweight title was and is tyson.
    By the timu he was Patterson age Tyson had defended the title 3 times and two fo those were unification titles vs Bonecrusher Smith and Tony Tucker.

    This to me suggests Patterson is still the youngest real champ. What was the situation, why didnt Spinks have an alphabet title?

    Spinks was stripped of his IBF belt for not facing his mandatory (Tony Tucker). He didn't want to enter the HBO tournament, and instead took a much more lucrative bout against Gerry Cooney.

    Tucker ended up beating Buster Douglas for the vacant IBF belt on the undercard of Tyson's win over Pinklon Thomas.
