Calzaghe was Hopkins best techinical fight, I think

Ha, Ha, Ha,,,,Calzaghe beat him to the punch all nite, he had hopkins running by 4th round, please a argument could be made joe lost only 3 rounds. 10th round tells all, bernard needed that low blow break, those punches were wearing on him. Joe should of gave him a rematch, an to me it wouldn't hurt for joe to come back now an give him one. But it is not warrented

 

Hopkin did very well in the first half of the fight. I also feel it was the best hes ever been, gainst the best natural fighter hes ever faced

But as Joe always does, he adapted. Like someone else said, he out willed Hopkins. It was an amazing comeback, and showed how much grit the Welshman has

It was a very close fight, i had Hopkins a round up going into the end, but Hopkins should have been outright DQd for taking that 5 minute time out, and if he was forced to get up and keep fighting like he would have been on neutral turf, he would have been stopped (through sheer exhaustion) for the first time in his career

I didn't get to watch the fight live but was listening to it on the radio and the BBC 5 live commentators thought calzaghe lost.

 

At the time i thought it was a real close decision which could easily have gone either way.
Hopkins was clinical early but from Rd 5 onwards he was on the backfoot, rarely traded and was tiring quickly. The break in the 10th was a disgrace and suggested to me he didnt want any more of the pace as Calzaghe wouldnt slow down.
To answer the question though theres a case to say the first few rounds were technically beautiful but in comparison to the Trinidad fight its not even close.

 

The thing I have noticed is that people who scored this for hopkins based on clean affective punching also didn't give kotelnik the win against alexander and many other examples of americans fighting non americans and losing to CAP.

 

Calzaghe always starts slow btw that probably added to why hopkins dominated early.calzaghe started the same way against kessler until he figured him out.

calzaghe is still overrated though.

 

Hopkins landed **** all the entire fight except for a right hand in the 1st round that he threw with his eyes closed, poor guy got schooled by Calzaghe FFS. Not his best moment.

i actually agree with this poster for the most part. but i think it was his second best technical effort. against trinidad, hopkins was flawless. but in this fight, he dominate the actually fighting part. he was never once threatened by calzaghe, and that's why he never felt he had to increase his output. calzaghe was made to look like an amateur and a fool and was what you called, "schooled." hopkins just got in trouble for his "white boy" statement. hopkins neutralized everything of joe's except his stamina. ez win for hopkins and both fighters know it.

 

Says something about Hopkins' victim mentality that his supposed best performance was a loss.

I just cannot see how anyone could have scored this fight in favour of Hopkins. The man threw less, landed less and got hit more. What basis is that for winning a fight on points?

Having said that, I don't know of an objective, non-Calzaghe hating fan that has scored the fight for Hopkins.

 

That was a sluggish Joe C that beat Hopkins that night.

As awkward as BHop is that wasnt Calzaghe near his best.

 

Id love for someone to tell me how they found 1 of the first 7 rounds to give to calzaghie.
