[ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L6LVWUp0SKQ&feature=related[/ame] good, insightful interivew, in the last part he talks about how out of every fighter in the history of boxing, he would choose to fight SRR, which I thought was interesting, make no mistake though, I beleive the Bobby Dykes/Valentine's Day Massacre SRR would kill any version of Jones JR.
Yep good taste he knows his **** about boxing. Don't wanna derail thread but I can't see how that was a close fight. I haven't scored it but just watching it Norton seemed to win few rounds. Still he was a cracking fighter at his best- anyway with as much success as him in the 70's heavyweight scene could dominate todays rubbish imo
i'll take the jones that fought in the second griffin fight over any version of robinson. jones too big and fast.
really i think that you are dreaming... too big? lamotta was by far stronger and bigger of natural way than jones.(taller is not bigger), robinson was as fast as jones if not faster, and he had a better pack for sure. and better chin by a mile. robinson by murder
I do think Jones is a bit faster, i might be wrong but off the top of my head i would say he is, he's just not as skilled, in technical terms he's not approaching Robinson at all, you've got to give credence to the superman moniker that Roy went by though, that's how i see him, not technically great by any means but seriously ridiculously gifted on the natural/physical side of things, and he was effective with it.
Guys lamotta was in no way bigger then Jones...he fought at 160 in era before rehydration...the smallest weight for Jones was 160 and he rehydrated after those weigh ins.
I WOUL SAY THAT ROBINSON WAS MUCH FASTER WITH LEGS, AND THE HAND SPEED WAS EQUAL AT MIDDLE, ROBINSON WAS HARDER PUNCHER TOO IN MY OPINION, HE GOT BETTER COMBINATIONS, HE HAD MORE STAMINA, BETTER CHIN,MORE HEART... ROBINSON WAS BETTER IN EVERYTHING.i give great credit to jones except against monzÓn,hagler, robinson, greb, fitzsimmons, leonard and even lamotta.
i think you're off on this one. how are you comparing jones and lamotta? jones is a natural 168 pounder and robinson was at 147. robinson struggled twice with turpin. not sure how he would cope with jones. jones by decision. now that he's on the downside of his career people, especially on classic boards, forget how good jones was. i will agree that old robinson beats old jones but roy was a freak in his prime.
Me too. I love Robinson, but he is a natural welter/superwelter, who had a lot of success at middleweight against p4p lesser opponents. Pound-for-pound, Jones is better than the likes of Olsen, Fullmer, Turpin, etc, and at 180+lbs, he'd be too much for Robinson just like Maxim was.
Maxim was getting schooled by Ray, the heat was what beat him. Ray was still at MW fighting a LHW, cant say I'm surprised he folded under the heat. Still, don't think Maxim was too involved in Ray's loss...
lamotta was bigger and stronger than jones of natural way, he was more compact , he weighed 190 pounds at amateur...
