Bits of the fight are on youtube, but does anyone know if the whole fight exists for viewing? the fight looks terrific and shows robbie when he still had a bounce in his legs which was not there in later years, his evasion skills are great hes almost gliding in and out and theres a great bit when he throws a short left hook (going backwards!) which knocks dykes into the ropes. Anyway the few rounds shown look awesome and I wondered if anyone has seen the whole fight and if they know where it can be seen anywhere in its entireity...

The full fight exists for sure. A great boxing match. Dykes was a hell of a boxer, even though his chin was a little dicey. I felt he really ran Ray close. A clear Ray Robinson win, but Bobby made him earn it and showed great heart to keep fighting back whenever Ray hurt him (quite a few occasions).

Drop us a pm if you'd like to know who you can get the fight from. :good

bman, I saw the fight in person, but it was not this fight in Chicago,1950.
I saw Ray Robinson fight BOBBY DYKES at the Coney Island Veledrome in NY, a few years later. It was a decision for Robinson, but STRANGELY this
bout is not recorded in the record books ! But I was there !
As sure as I am typing this post....

Dykes gave Kid Gavilan some real trouble years later, though he was nearly flattened in the early rounds. A big, rangy welterweight with fast hands and good skills as well as competitiveness.

Bman the fight I saw was a fairly uneventful event.no knockdowns.A let-down. I recall at the fight two things. Robbie and his entourage arriving about a half hour late in a Ray's fuscia colored Cadilac., into the open aired arena. The crowd were grumbling, waiting for Robinson to arrive. And i was
aware before the fight that this was the second meeting of Ray Robinson and Florida's Bobby Dykes. Dykes was tall and loose and lanky.
But I have tried to see that fight in any record book, without success all these years...As we know Robinson and Dykes are long dead, and I have
long ceased my search. A mystery to me all these years !
P.S. ESB fans, any clues to my quandry ?

Thank you M . I gave up on my search as a lost cause like the Confederacy.
But the bman thread about the First Robinson /Dykes bout in Chicago,
triggered off this 'Bermuda Triangle " mystery once again. My friend who was with me is long departed, to join me in my search, why one of Ray Robinsons fights is not listed in the record books, lo these many years.
    Thanks again M:good...

It makes you wonder how many fights get missed off the official records and lost forever.
I never take the official records as being correct and complete. Thousands upon thousands of fights have probably gone unrecorded, even of famous and TV-era fighters like Sugar Ray.

U,What you say is so TRUE.There are many fights of the past that are NOT listed in today's record books.
As one personal example, the Ray Robinson/Bobby Dykes bout I saw in Coney Island, years after their first bout in Chicago,Nov.8,1950. And----
I saw Jake LaMotta lose a decision to some fighter at the Eastern Parkway
Arena, NY in the late 1950s...This also is not in the record book today..
But see them I DID !!!
