Until he avenges his loss to Margo, he will always be a Margarito leftover

as long as margarito is mexican..people will pay to watch him fight.

Don't count him out against maravilla..(not on winning, but getting the actual fight)

Martinez is a great talent and a very good fighter. His record just doesn't match up to it yet. But I think he still has a few great fights left in him so it's no problem his record really.

    Fun bump!

Yes, it was pretty thin. But that's why you gotta WATCH the fights and not rely on boxrec or whatever and a couple youtube highlight vids before you make a proper assessment.

Dude Maravilla was avoided for almost a decade, and not fake-avoided or Winky Wright 'I'm a champion nobody wants to fight me' avoided but 'I'm not a champion and politics don't allow me to become one' avoided so even less wanted to get touched by Martinez, an Argentiean living in Spain.

Watch some mid-career fights such as the Stone or 2nd Williams fight, he did what does today, only with much faster hands. But he was the 'opponent' in these high caliber fights, and unlike a Winky fighing in the American market, for someone not having the kind of nice circumstances it took YEARS for Sergio to get even an interim title opportunity (as Forrest RIP ducked him), and even when the full title was at stake he was cheated 3 times one night (Cintron fight, cheated from a KO, a DQ and an UD). You know when a Paul Williams cries about being avoided it reaches to everyone because of course it's a publicity stunt by his influential promotional team. When someone like Martinez of 2006 cries about being avoided - it does't even hit the media.

His story pre-2009 is the saddest display of boxing politics, and the way he turned it around this year is quite possibly the biggest finger flipping to the 'system' in the past decade. Martinez won the World MW Championship when was given little chance and took the decision out of the judges hands in the Williams rematch. And even then, as the reigning World MW Champion he was tossed around in negotiations and in the promotion, was forced to take a catchweight and fight out of the challengers corner, and was robbed of the opening round on the official cards, so if not for the KO, he would've been robbed again. Hype machine source HBO, the major promoters who keep their guys in the warm and others out in the cold, sanctioning bodies who stand behind major promoters for bigger sanctioning fees and main market boxing writers with an agenda - they all went down with Paul Williams, as a hardcore Maravilla backer it was like the sweetest moment in long long years.

This guy deserves every dollar he earns and should earn, every P4P recongition and FOTY title, everything, because in his prime he was forced to take on 1-7-3 guys but as a 35yo said **** you very much, but I made it, and ain't going nowhere bitches.
