You think beating Humberto Soto would establish Marquez as an ATG? Why?

I'd watch it, but it's hardly a satisfactory answer for the thread. Humberto Soto has a lot of limitations, and they are being shown more frequently.

Beating Soto would not establish Marquez as an ATG, and I don't see it being all that competitive either, whereas I think Rios would pose a lot of problems for the aging Mexican.

Honestly? Marquez would have to be lucky to be considered an AtG. Maybe if he dominated Pacquiao in P-M III or beat PBF in a rematch. Or conquered the 140lb king. He just doesn't have a lot of time left. I think his best choice should be to completely conquer LW and then take on the 140lb guy. If he isn't done by then.

When do you think he established himself?

Beating any of the top 140lbs fighters should do it. He's got a lot of good wins, but not really the one that stands out or defines his career.

He still has Pacquiao-Marquez II. People will remember. I hope.

He already has signature win/wins in my view* (thought he beat Pac twice) and is already gonna go down as at ATG.

Unfair to say a fighter doesnt have signature wins/fights because of the politics of boxing and/or imcompetent judges robbing him of wins and i dont just mean Marquez.

According to the scorecards of the judges. But me and several other fans do not see it that way.

Its not that simple in this case.

Saying Barrera lost to JMM would be simple, there is a difference.

Are we talking about Juan Manuel Marquez? If so, surely he's already an all time great.

It was a super close fight that could have gone either way and the scorecards reflected that so there was no foul play involved. Pacquiao won a super close fight. No robbery, Marquez just fell short of the mark.

He needs a win to secure his place among the elites, not a close defeat.
