Erik Morales is clamoring for a Juan Manuel Marquez showdown................

    Last night at the Caliente Racetrack in Tijuana, Mexico, three-division champion Erik Morales produced his third victory of the year with a close decision over Dominican Francisco Lorenzo. The 34-year old Morales figured that Lorenzo, a late sub for the often-troubled Jorge Barrios, would give him a decent scrap and the tight scorecards reading 116-111, 115-112, and 114-113 were a reflection of such.

    “It was a tough fight,” Morales stated in a ???????????? article by Jhonny Gonzalez. “I’m ready for the fight against Juan Manuel Marquez. I’m ready to go for a world title next year.”

    Marquez is the reigning WBA and WBO lightweight champion of the world. The decorated veteran from Mexico City is coming off of a 9th round TKO over gritty Australian Michael Katsidis at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. In that contest Marquez had to pick himself up off of the canvas in the 3rd round before proceeding to pick Katsidis apart with accurate blows to the body and head.

    Morales has slowly been creeping back to the 135 pound limit as he weighed in at 139 ¾ for the Lorenzo tussle while coming in at 143 for his September stoppage of Willie Limond and 147 back in March when he defeated former lightweight titlist Jose Alfaro. A fight between him and Marquez would reportedly take place in late March or on April 16th either in Las Vegas or Mexico.

    JMM wins this. It's a fight that would be a spectacle but i don't wanna see JMM win over a way past his prime El Terrible! JMM is my boy but he's operating at top level to great effect. Morales is beating second rate guys and not looking amazing.

    I dunno how the Mexican fans would view JMM beating Morales...at this stage..to me it would be a pretty hollow victory...

    This would be totally sad to watch, hope Marquez doesn't take it and I don't think that he would.

    Its the only fight missing from the Pac, MAB, EM & JMM roundabout of bouts, and from that point of view I'd like to see it.

    But the facts are the facts. And the fact is that Morales is shot to ****, and JMM would beat the **** out of him.

    Its not a fight I would want to see. Morales is one of my favourite fighters of the modern era - I don't want to see him taking anymore unneccesary punishment..

    JMM is a Mexico City boy though, just like Barrera.:hey

    I thought Morales would be more chummy with a fellow-Tijuana native, or maybe one of the Los Mochis boys.

    that would make sense, i think 1 of the HBO crew said it before the Pac Morales fight IIRC, altho i cud be wrong:think

    defo heard it somewhere tho

    He'll probably get it. EM is the one that got away for JMM. Hard enough for EM in his prime let alone now. JM wants big fights and EM is a name until something better comes along. EM is not the same man. Hopefully he gets the pay day, gets beat up and retires.

    i dont really wana see this fight, im happy for morales to fight b/c level fighters but this would be a beatdown :deal

    Its a past his prime JMM who will be 38 fighting a guy 4 years his junior

    Its all JMM does, fight guys 4/5/6/9 years younger than him.
