Teaching boxing in schools

Yeah it's worth it mate, i don't know to much about Rugby coaching and levels etc but if it's anything like coaching football you will love it in terms of working with young people and seeing your work rub off on someone.

It's like when i teach a young kid a dragback...simple but for that kid it's major step in his development. The more you coach the better you get and once you get good you just can't get enough.

My dad always says to me ''you ain't going work your going to kick football round with bunch of kids for a living! ''....i might not tell him but he's right!

 

3 of my mates altho 4 years younger than me came through the bournemouth youth ranks, josh mcquiod who now plays for millwall, sam vokes who playes for wolves and jorden rose plays for stockport. there just from my small town 20 mins away b'mouth so somethings going right down there.

doing really well this season, much better than i thought and id still be happy with a top half finish, eddie howe doing a top job:good

Mandanda what do you think about British coaching compared to abroad my brother is a referee he is often on the line in the championship and he is always complaining from his experience at academies that we move to 11 a side too early at age 11-12 i think it is and we need to focus on key skills more possession and passing playing in smaller groups having 3-4 a side matches to give kids more time on the ball which is apparently more the norm abroad

 

Yeah i seen McQuiod play the other week against Scunthorpe he looks very promising. Jackett really rates him highly. Vokes done well for himself as well i see.

Glad to hear it mate. Nice to see he's stabilizing club. To many jump to a bigger job and no one benefits from it. I have high hopes for him and you lot producing some very good talents so who knows might have a few more coming through!

I'm a Chelsea fan mate, grown up just across River from Fulham. Whole Family are Blue's!..and with a name like Bleu there's no way i couldn't support them

 

Totally agree with you and your brother mate. What's taken me to Brentford is fact the coaches there are all promising yet still young coaches with good philosophies on game.

I be honest mate it not being arrogant but to many Coaches who i work with ain't got a clue.

I've met very few good coaches. I think every coach should have there own philosophy that's what makes the game great but as you mention all should look to improve players technically but teach the kids the right principles of play.

For a player to reach international standards a kid needs to touch the ball 10,000 times in a 10 year span. Now running round the pitch and doing SAQ drills for 40mins of a 1 and half hour session isn't going to breed players it will make athletes.

I was with Palace for a while just doing bit of scouting about 18 months back. I left after 6 months because the club is in a mess! The standard of coaching was absolutely abysmal. Eg.

Players in Under 10's taking free kicks for 35 mins in straight line one go then to back of line. My mate sent a under 15 lad. He small slight built kid but very classy on ball has good technique ability but gets a bit bullied at times. The Palace Coach comes over to scout and says ''he's better then we got technically but he's to small..so i won't be offering him anything''.

Problem is to many coaches at Academy have gotten jobs/roles through someone and once they get tracksuit on think they a god's gift to coaching. They are more worried about building there CV rather then developing the children's ability.

They fancy taking over the first team when the manager gets a p45 that's the problem. Plus the courses we have are not age appropriate although i'm doing F.A Youth Module in Jan so hopefully this will be step in right direction.

We give up on kids to easy i notice. Releasing them from Academy's after one bad season etc.

For me training has to included touches on ball, some free time for lads to work on parts of game they feel they need to. Possession games and technical drills working on various techniques as well as Small Sided Games and trying to get players to play with a swagger and not fear losing ball.

There's signs of things getting better...i've heard a certain major European Club that plays in Spain are looking to enter English market to develop players and coaches here.

All in All our coaching is rotten compared to Abroad because we don't have a philosophy of game that everyone teaches. Abroad they have a style of play and it's taught from early and inbuilt.

not to keen on chelsea since u got the big bucks coming in altho i sad to see mourinho leave the prem. he's a 1 off. chelsea would be dominating europe if he was still in charge. it seems to me all ur managers since have to work with HIS team and cant bring in the players they want.

Yeah i agree. The amount of players we go to buy and never get them. There a special side but we always lack that one player who creates something a player with lower centre of gravity and can do something out of nothing. The ego's **** me tbh...Terry basically said we wasn't trying to win games the other week. It's now allowed United to creep into a 6 point lead.

I met Ray once, what a lovely lovely man he was. I asked for a photo with me and my mate and he chatted with us for a good 5 minutes and this was when we were linked with Robinho when he was at Real.

He said ''no we don't want him, i hope club doesn't he's nothing special there's plenty of better players for the club to sign''. A few months later and he joins club as Assistaint. He's sorely missed and i know myself and many fans are ****ing fuming at his treatment and i think players as well. It's coincided with a terrible run of form.

 

he seems level and down to earth, hope he gets another decent job as an asstistant or maybe manage a championship club.

Well one of the perks with working for Chelsea's Kickz scheme is you get to take kids to home league games so it's like a season ticket but i'm not on Kickz atm but i will be demanding my old project back seeing as me and kids got on and i get to go to games :hey

 

Yeah sounds like my brother has had a similar experience to you obviously from a different perspective being the man in the middle and as you might suspect him being a ref he was never a great footballer but he has a good thinking mind for the game.

He finds that a lot of people like you mentioned and i guess in some respects in all fields of life love the idea of being in a position of power. Whislt there are some greta people at all levels of the game a lot are out for themselves and become arrogant and prickly characters to deal with.

He says the difference between here and say the continent is the emphasis on ball control and developing a football brain whereas we often focus on the raw attributes of a player and playing to those strengths before they are at a standard of ball control and vision.

My brother is of theopinion that guys like Arron Lennon and Theo walcott would be world beaters if trained on the continent as their ball control and footballing brain would be much more advanced to already compliment their raw attributes.

A lot of the problem is the coaches are more worried about beating Arsenal on the sunday at under 12's. They will do a session of defending and tactical stuff rather then doing a technical session and asking players to be creative. There's a balance between over coaching and under and i rarely see a coach get it right.

Let the players play and make mistakes but at times step in and go ''what could you of done there better?...maybe try a flick with outside of boot to lay him in''.

It's like all this play the way you face stuff that's all well and good but watch Xavi receive under pressure and turn his man at times. It's like telling a boxer hold when your back up to ropes..if you can use your skill to get away.

Most of our players can only receive with inside and outside of foot. We don't work on enough touch work as your brother rightly says. I've started to make up my own drills from watching Barca play.

Little things where player plays to a cone (weighted pass) player runs to receive and checks out using Cruyff turn then plays reverse ball to another player who passes to another player with outside of foot and gets it back and shoots on goal.

Plus i encouraging the unpredictable and telling kids to try tricks and then as times wears educate them on where why and when to use those flicks.

In Brazil they do a lot of this. Keeping ball up and aerial receiving repetitions.
