I would not doubt that he has the power to beat me for sure. Desire... i doubt it.

If he had top position he would win... if i has top position i think i could do it.

I wouldn't go and put all my money on myself though as like you said... he was against Sir Randy.

MMA rules... i would smash his shins to pieces! As long as i ran from his hands for enough time to land 4 or 5 kicks to his legs he would not be able to stand.

If Master Sken landed one leg kick on JT it would be all over! :bart

again..i dont really know who good you are.....but i have done some mma....i was never a world class boxer...but the guys i sparred who tried to throw leg kicks i was often able to counter with head shots...espically right leg kicks to the thigh..i was always able to land a counter right hand..and toney does definitly have a good counter right hand.

Thai fighters? Or just MMA guys?

A right leg kick to the top half of the leg should be covered with a left paw/jab. Hard to counter as the left shoulder protects the chin.

The body can be open but if the opponent tries a body shot you can either raise the left knee to the face/punch or use that left paw/jab to a greater use by slipping it around the left ear of the opponent. Pull their head down and towards your gut and then slam the straight knees home.

Left leg kicks are far better to use against power punchers and fighters with quick hands as they are very hard to counter... they hurt like **** too!

just mma....had a few pro fight fights...had done various martial arts..i did spar one thai fighter who was legit..but he was also only 130 pounds.....and i could bulldog him..and even though i cant grapple at all...he really wasnt much better..and i had 80 pounds on him..so id just toss him....but in pure sparring i did have trouble.

however i always found that the right hand was best aganst a right kick..because the motion of the kick actually turns the body in such a right that the right hand lands nice....

of course to you have to ether check the kick..and then step in fast..not always easy to do...or step in and eat the kick....

The right hand is a good counter against the right kick in sparring but not in a fight... once but if you take more than two leg kicks against a good Thai fighter then you are asking for trouble.

A few months back i took a light (Very light) leg lick off Master A when he showed me a combo and it hurt like ****!

i had some guys who can kick good (again im sure not as good as a top thai fighter, but then i am no james toney) thing was when they kicked hard i seemed to be able to land my hand flusher...not sure if id wanna get hit by my right hand with 4 ounce gloves..i sure as hell wouldnt want to eat a professional figther..even one not really known for his power like toney.

It's all about balance... i'd rather land a sweet leg kick than a left hook... if you give me a right elbow... mmm!

I love boxing so much but when i first started Muay Thai i quickly found out that legs are longer than arms

My best friend is 6ft 5 (82in reach) and i train with him at my house and at our dojo and there is no way i can trade gloves as i'm only 5ft 10 (71in reach) so the left leg is my hail mary.

On the inside i take him apart though :hey

fair enough..i can definitly see the argument that equal skilled muay thai guy will beat a equal skilled boxing guy...my trouble is....james toney..while no longer what he once was..is still better then all but a few men.....so even if you have..in a sense..more tools...i think he would be hard to beat in a stand up battle. Espically if toney is given say another few months to train kick counters and all......

Toney is too old to bother training these days. Let alone learn new tricks. The mma thing was all about money for him and people lapped it up.

Stand up Toney will get smashed with MMA rules as he has never trained for head kicks, elbows and knees to the head.

In western Boxing you can bob and weave all night. Do it more than once in MMA and you get a knee straight in the chops and it's bed time.

Now a good MMA fight for JT would be Kimbo or Mark Hunt. Both of them i'd like to see!

yea if you just keep boobing and weaving..thats true..but i dont think slipping shots and even ducking is really that dangerous...again though.....you are talking eltie fighting elites..most guys on esb arent elite.

Even though it was Randy, JT didn't offer much defence on the ground. His guard was passed with great ease and he didn't even try any hip escapes when he was mounted. Everything Randy done was very basic, when he had the arm triangle JT didn't even try to defend it, he needed to put his hand to his ear but I don't think he had a clue.

On this evidence I'd say most people with relative experience would beat him if they could handle his size. I expect most of his training was working on the sprawl, however, a determined wrestler would get him eventually.

Great skills, honded through practice. Hand eye coordination and timing.

yep...all those things...i would argue hand eye coordination and timing are aspects of athletic skill.....and at least timing (and hence reflexes) would translate to grappling....

however I would also argue that while he may not have ran a 10 flat 100..he had more raw athletic skills then many

People here think that NFL players are garbage athletes because some of them are fat, when in reality, the fattest guy on the team is probably faster than almost all the posters on this site.

How fast you run a 40 in?

Like I said in the previous post, you probably think you can beat NFL players in a sprint.
