Whether you agree with Mayweathers recent behavior or not, there is no denying that he does what he wants, when he wants to. My question is are we the fans somewhat at fault? In the ring we have allowed him to fight whoever he wants and still consider him the best and pay to see him fight. He retires to avoid a challenge and comes back to fight a much smaller man, and we take him back with open arms and still follow his career like he is some kind of boxing god when the reality is that he hasnt done anything spectacular in the ring in years. (And, yes, I'm guilty of this too...I am writing an article about the guy).
Floyd goes off on some rant and hes on the front page of every boxing website. People around him kiss his @ss all day everyday and though could call them his entourage, they are really just super-fans. Floyd is basically comparable to a child star. People have followed his career since he was a young kid and then somewhere along the way, he becomes bigger that himself. In a way hes like the Michael Jackson of boxing. Disciplined and brilliant on the stage, but allowed to do what he wants off the stage because at the end of the day his behavior sells. Tyson made a career of it in the 90s. He seems to have matured on his on volition. Sooner or later (more likely sooner), Floyd will not longer be relevant in the ring. Will we allow him to stay relevant outside of it for the wrong reasons? History has shown us, that it wont turn out good for him if we do. History has also shown us, that we probably will.

Every month Floyd spends away from the boxing scene, he becomes more and more irrelevant. I don't think it's as big an issue as you think

only reason why people excuse floyds behaviour is because he is great in the ring, outside he is surrounded with yes men and act like a immature spoiled kid with money and a god complex. after he is done with boxing he will most likely do something stupid and end up in jail, lose his money, or only be in the news for negative reasons.

    To answer your question: NO.

    It's called personal responsibility.
There are plenty of famous actors, sports figures, etc... who don't act like spoiled brats. Floyd just isn't one of them.

Thanks. Your probably right. I dont consider myself not a fan though. I love boxing so I guess im a fan of his talent, if not the man himself. I think in general we hold celebrities to a different standard than ordinary people, but in reality they are just ordinary people, some of them have done extraordinary things. All the fame is just a creation of ordinary people in large numbers. thats just how I see it.

you absolutly right. but the question should be, do we have enough power, too control who he fights? we all want him too face pac, but still he doesn't do it.

When he was "retired" he was still getting mentioned every other post on here, so im not sure I agree with that. Even with Tyson quit and sayed he didnt have the stomach for boxing anymore and his career ended in 1990, people still spread rumours of a comeback and talked about him fighting again. The difference between Tyson and Floyd is that Tyson really came from nothing. People have been kissing Floyds ass his whole life.

silver spoon people easily get that larger then life feeling and go crazy i their own little world when they are rich. People from a poor background and struggle like b-hop for example will now where they came from and be a man when they have money and spend their time wisely so that they dont end up back in poverty again.

I don't think Floyd had a silver spoon type of background. His dad worked the **** out of him to make him what he is today. He just didn't come from severly impoverished background like Tyson.

i watched floyd before he had a world title i think he has had a great career. i dont like fans that nit-pick, everyone floyd does someone has comment on it.if people would shut the hell up would not be much to talk about now would it ? but everyone was a crtic, everyone has something to say no matter if its been sayed before or not.everyone wants to play judge, jury and excutioner.

only person left for floyd is manny, when floyd beats him then what ? what is there else to talk about now i wonder.whats the difference in fighting a smaller man then fighting weight drained bigger men (u cant fool me).whats wrong with fighting at the time the best ww who smashed margo and was top 3 p4p fighter.espcially when they said you would not fight and or never sign a contract.or you want show up for the fight or pull out of the fight.then when it comes time to fight they say mayweather will run, everything was false.but it was big deal all of sudden because mayweather dominated now it was because he was 38 when another fighter will fight that same person when they will be 40 and its ok.and i bet it will be a catchweight cause thats how thirsty shane is.

i think boxers should be judged on what they do in the ring and not out.we dont know them personally so why try to act like we do.i never became a fan of a fighter because of what they sayed or how they talked or were they came from, it has always been how they fought in that ring.thats how it should be !!

I dont know. I think maybe Floyd has become to big at this point, so maybe the damage has already been done. Too may ppv's, too many accolades, too highly reguarded in recent years, too much "Money."

No, he didnt have it easy, im not saying that. But he didnt learn the life lessons on his own that most fighters do before boxing and most people do in general about behavior and what you can and cant get away with outside the ring. Or not just get away with, but what is acceptable in society. He was bread to be a boxer.
