I agree that there are holes in his resume. But I don't think that's through any fault of his own.

The Hopkins win is underrated in my eyes btw

I think Hopkins was a good win. And looking better as of late. Still, doesn't make it a prime Hopkins as some have said. And it shouldnt have to be relied on as a career defining win. Some actually say Jones was prime too.

Anyone who says Jones was prime is clearly deluded.

I may be the biggest Calzaghe fan here on ESB and I can't argue with facts.:deal

It is true, I must admit Joe Calzaghe is a fraud.

    I've been DUPPED!!!!!:-(

I know. Yet, go thru some of the threads involving Calzaghe and Jones and you'll find it. The fanbase of every fighter has its lunatic fringe.

    Absolutely.

I'd say either Lacy or Kessler were his defining fights.

Many of his wins have been made to look better over time though.

    Kessler, Hopkins, Bika etc

Lacy was his defining fight, Kessler made him a superstar!

Hopkins defined him as a HoF'er

    Indeed.

The loss to Calzaghe took a lot out of Kessler, not so much physically, but more mentally.

He still managed to beat Carl Froch though.

Kessler was injured in the run up to the Calzaghe fight, not that I'm taking anything away from Calzaghe winning that fight because Kessler has a history of hand problems so much so that he has had to have titanium to sort out his problems.

as for his vision and balance issues, I noticed it during the Perdomo fight that something was off!

Did Reid get a point deduction or warning for a legal punch? It was one or the other.Ottke has the silliest boxing record ever,as we all know.

So much wrong with this thread. If you are going to tell facts do tell the other side of them.

Forgetting to mention that first time Eubank lost to Collins many thought Eubank had done enough and the 2nd loss to Collins was a SD.
Eubank had a year off after the 2nd Collins fight, many fighters do. Mosely and Mayweather both had longer off after big wins, and Eubank at 31 was younger than them. Eubank then had 2 tune up fights as you note, fighting Calzaghe around 7 months after the last, with the other around 5 months after that, so its not like Eubank hadnt been active and was rusty like you try and make out :patsch.
After Calzaghe as underdog beat Eubank, Eubank went up to CW and challenged the WBO champ Thompson twice, losing closely on points first time round and retiring on a facial injury in the second fight when ahead, against the champ Thompson, who is the only fighter to have beaten D Haye.
Dosent sound like a shot Eubank when said that way or semi retired.
Good Calzaghe win when considered underdog

A MW gimme for Calzaghe. Calzaghe was in only his 24th fight, but what isnt mentioned is that Sobots only loss at the time was a close loss to future WBC MW champ Cherifi

A former title challenger who had mixed in world class for a long time and was fed to Calzaghe to help give rounds as Calzaghe had stopped 22 opponents in 24 fights. Ferreyra had never been stopped before yet Calzaghe managed to do just that. Ferreyra had 17 fights after Calzaghe and only got stopped once after that by future LHW champ Z Erdei

Reid was an odd fighter who could perform very well or have bad off nights, against Malinga he just didnt do much for some reason.
Reid fought a good fight against Calzaghe but although it was a SD, Calzaghe was a very clear winner on 2 of the judges cards and to all of the studio commentary (McGuigan, Eubank and ??) who had it 116-111. Great performance off of Calzaghe who broke his hand in the 4th round yet prevailed.
Reid went on to challenge twice again and was considered robbed against Ottke the undefeated WBA & IBF SMW champ, most felt Reid one. Reid also beat Brinkley (a former Bute title challenger) and beat undefeated B Magee who went on to win the European title and is now facing L Bute next.
Good Calzaghe win over a world class opponent.

Will carry on the education on other pages
