"I'm not chasing after Roy Jones. Be honest, Roy Jones is a good fighter and I don't want tough fights, I just want big money."

    June 1st, 1999
Joe Calzaghe quoted directly in the Daily Mirror newspaper

From Joe's own autobiography, published in 2007:

"I have no interest any more in Roy Jones and no interest in Antonio Tarver. Jones is washed up and Tarver was never that good anyway, he just caught Jones when Jones was shot and Johnson did the same."

Tarver and Johnson fought Jones in 2004, and Calzaghe says he was shot then... then Joe fights him FOUR YEARS later.

    Sorry Bailey. :smoke

Has Joe ever said he fought a prime RJJ?

No, he just wanted his name on his resume along with the payday, he's always said that.

Even though he said Jones was one of his top three wins afterwards? :huh

What's with all the Calzaghe threads, some obsessives can't accept he's retired, huh?

This one's a bit of a let down, would have thought that a thread promising 'thoughts throughout the ages' would deliver more than two quotes.

It's up to him if he regards that fight as one of his top 3, he probably liked his performance and enjoyed the whole event.

Against a fighter he himself thinks was shot, even years before he fought him? You think that's acceptable? :think The guy in your avatar wouldn't, that's for damn sure. :deal

Yes even againsed a guy he himself thinks was shot years before.

Speaking of Tszyu! It's like Tszyu saying an old Chavez was one of his top three wins, it might be to him and him only, but it's his choice.

Man, this is silly. It's up to Joe or any other fighter as to which of their fights they liked the best.

In 2001 after Joe beat Will Mcintyre he looked into the camera and said something like :
"Roy Jones, I'm coming for you, man."

Why have you failed to mention this?

After Calzaghe beat Hopkins, Roy quickly called him out. This was Frank Warren's response:

Calzaghe's promoter Frank Warren refused to be drawn on the possibility of his fighter meeting Jones. He told BBC Radio Five Live this morning: "We chased Roy Jones for six or seven years and he didn't want to know Joe. Now he wants to know him because he's got nowhere else to go. "I'm not saying anything - Joe has only just won his fight.

And it's up to us, the fans, whether we think that is bull**** or not. :deal

Two sides to every story. Not that you can expect objectivity on here.

Calzaghe fought Jones in the end because he had run out of challenges. He did for the opportunity to headline MSG and for the big pay day.

Mayweather does it all the time.
