Calzaghe fought bums for the most part of his career but it's not his fault....

Calzaghe wanted Tarver in 2004 and tried to make the fight.

From the BBC, 9th January 2004.
After that I want to fight Antonio Tarver, who gave Roy Jones Jr such a hard time.

"He's rated the No 1 light-heavy in the US, and I'm willing to go to his own backyard to beat the guy.

"If I do that, hopefully I'll get my recognition across the Atlantic."

    BBC, 3rd February 2004

Calzaghe has targeted a move to the higher division in 2004 and a 'superfight' with Tarver.

"Calzaghe's promoter called and I would be happy to take that fight if Calzaghe is ready to make his debut in America," Tarver told the Boxing Talk website.

"Soon you may be seeing Tarver against Calzaghe - it's Showtime baby!"

Who knows why certain fights don't get made. I'm not saying Joe is blameless but various circumstances and boxing politics scupper big fights. We are seeing it today with Haye v Klitschko and Manny v Floyd.

Wow. Joe Calzaghe talked about fighting someone, but never actually did it. I suppose talking about it is what's important though, that proves his innocence and his willingness to go anywhere and do anything to hunt down challenges. Cracking post. :good

As a fighter you should want to be the best. Khan left Warren's ass in the search for a great career, do not for one second think Joe was not happy beating up bums in Britain for a payday.

What more do you want mate? You spend so much time criticising Calzaghe and raking up negative quotes. Pity you cannot respond intelligently to postive quotes from Cazlaghe.

Calzaghe tried to fight Tarver in 2004 and for some reason it didn't happen.

If you know the true facts as to why it didn't happen please let us all know.

Dang Calzaghe gets a lot of crap on here...he was friggin undefeated. I dunno what people expect. Yes he could of foght on & on, but he was smart to go out on a high note. Look at all these once heros (now bums) that fight on, YEARS after their golden years.

Now, time for a Joke. If Calzaghe came back for one last performance, I'd have to put him in against Jeff "What Hook" Lacy. I think Lacy would have his number this time...

    Did he though? :think

I really don't think that merely saying to a TV camera you want to fight someone qualifies as "trying to fight" them, do you?

I do know however that Joe C twice pulled out of fights which had been arranged with Glen Johnson. That is not mere words.

    Cue ready-made excuse number 403,962...

    Hey stupid
Undefeated don't mean **** when 90% of your opposition are bums, cab drivers and local weightlifters. That's the extent of Joe's legacy. Deal with it. It will only get more obvious over time and it's highly unlikely the masses will forget Calzaghe's cowardly career.:deal

When the cowardly Calzaghe felt both Jones and Hopkins were "safely" outside of prime and on the downslide, he finally came out of hiding to do what he should have done 10 years earlier. He faced a well past prime Hopkins....AND LOST, only being saved by biased white boys. The decision reminds us of Jack Johnson's questionable loses to the goofy and no talented white boys he embarassed. Calzaghe is the modern day Jim Jefferies, hyped to the extreme with gift decisions and no real elite level talent.

:huh Like who? Hopkins and Jones werent interested and Calzaghe beat Americas top SMW that would face him in Sheika, Manfredo, Brewer, Mitchell and Lacy, and dont forget that Echoles and Tate pulled out :patsch.
So what American SMWs are you reffering to?

Fantastic post that totally destroys what the minions want to believe.
Thats right Collins retired when signed to fight Calzaghe as did Tate. Echoles pulled out.
Ottke and Beyer were both offered career high paydays and didnt want to meet Calzaghe. Ottkes trainer openly admits that.

What Calzaghe did do was beat every top American SMW that would face him in Brewer, Manfredo, Sheika, Mitchell and Lacy.

Thats a bitter pill for the haters to swallow :hi:
