    Thanks.
I had noticed that Popkins was a fragile personality and claims not to be bias with a name like Popkins :dead

Nonsense. Hopkins may not have been at his prime, but the notion that he was faded at that particular is ridiculous. Hopkins isn't fading now. :D

At any rate, if you are so quick to cite the relative state of Hopkins's career at the time, kindly do the same for Calz. Was he in his prime?? No, but of course that scarcely registered with you.

Bottom line: a less than prime Calz beat a less than prime Hopkins. :deal

Yeah I know I did, that was in answer to that post, due to others by the same person. But IF YOU READ MY POSTS ON CALZAGHES SMW FIGHTS you will find I didnt include any part of Hopkins or Jones until I was answering that. The post reads even years later which means further on to this thread :patsch.

I've had this stupid allegation made before, but I can happily confirm that even though I admire DINAMITA's ability to cut and paste the cold, hard truth, I am not him. I kind of wish I was though. :good

Put the bottle down ya drunk! Anyone who thinks Hopkins is half the fighter he was in his prime is on serious drink or drugs. The Hopkins who fought Trinidad would have beheaded a clown like Calzaghe. In fact, that version of Tito Trinidad would have left Calzaghe face down on the canvas KTFO.:yep Calzaghe is King Of The Bums. Funny how of all, only Calzaghe and Kessler's records are susceptible to this type of criticism. No matter how many tears and girlish whining Beetle Baily spouts, this reality of Calzaghe's ducking history and fighting Euro-bums will only become clearer over time.

You didn't mention Hopkins or Jones because the thread is about his WBO TITLE REIGN, isn't it? :patsch:patsch:patsch

Read the thread title!! Did Calzaghe defend his WBO smw belt against Hopkins and Jones, or not???:oops::oops:

You mentioned Jones, but have now been exposed for an imbecile since that fight hadn't happened at the time of the thread!! D'oh!!!!!!!

Claims like this are what gets threads like this bumped again and again and again.

He did retire undefeated. And he beat up legends of the sport who were well past their prime. While they aren't accomplishments that should be scoffed at, they hardly make him an atg. Who these feats were done against speaks volumes, no?

If JCC jr were to beat Cotto and then Pacquiao in a few years would he qualify as an atg?
(Its probably not the perfect example, but you get the drift.)

If Calzaghe is considered an ATG, than so are Robin Reid, Frank Bruno, and Manfredo.

No the thread isnt just about his title reign :patsch, it is about all of his SMW title fights including unifications which are the only facts that I commented on, on the previous posts, if you read them. Still for you to want to talk about this, tells me you are losing a debate about Calzaghes resume when you have to knit pick on such small things

All of which adds up to what exactly? A lower level fighter having close fights or against a somewhat better fighter does not make him a top quality fighter. I mean, you're talking Ottke here. Who is exactly the kind of guy Calzaghe is being lambasted for stocking up on.

The original post may leave some details out, but really, if you have to look THAT hard and close in order to make a guys so-so wins look good....what does that say?

I don't think anyone denies it. A couple of his WBO wins were decent, an awful lot were down right pathetic.
