In his mean streak, manorisms and inside work. Pedroza although he was taller had a similar inside game. Barrera has similar body rhythm to Eusebio too, although Marco is more dynamic, their punch delivery is from the same school. What's also from the same school is their dirty tricks...Pedroza is one of the dirtiest ever. He did this thing where he would start his combos with a low blow (usually a lead hook on the blind side of the ref) and would continue up top when the opponent was distracted, he wouldn't make it obvious and not let his man breath. Looks like Barrera studied some Pedroza, who i think would've given him a tough time btw.
Pedroza was much looser than Barrera. I see no resemblances, if I'm being honest. Perhaps in their mean streaks, but stylistically not at all. Barrera was a tight, compact puncher, whereas Pedroza was a whispy, free-flowing bolo-type puncher. A lot more fluidity to his movements, both offensively and defensively, whereas Barrera was all textbook when it came to the punching aspect.
Thanks for the insights. I do think the idea that Barrera was a dirty fighter is overstated, most notably by Manny Pacquiao and Juan Manuel Marquez enthusiasts. He had a mean streak, as you rightfully point out, but he won fights based on his technique and tenacity, not because of any intentional fouling.
