It is PROSPECT of the year, not future ATG.

If you look at other sports, baseball, NFL, soccer, NHL, etc Rookie of the Year winners, the percentage to greatness is not that much better.

It takes more than talent to win. It is hard to measure intangibles like heart, discipline, maturity, creativity, etc.

Look at Victor Ortiz. There is no doubt the dude got talent and more talent than some HoF. But his intangibles like heart is very questionable.

So get of your High Horses. I am not a Dan fan either but to imply any of you guys are better judges for PoTY is laughable.

 

Jim Carey, rookie of the year in the 90's. Based on stats. Guy was trash in his 2nd season, retired early.

I never said I thought I was a better POTY judge than him. He gave it more than a fair shake.

Well it's official: Saul Canelo Alvarez has a HELLUVA 2011 ahead. In the past decade only 3 came through the year following Dan Rafael's pick, so in 12 months time we'll know if Alvarez is absolutely for real, or just the next unfortunate prospect in line who was too impressive for his own good.
