Perhaps, although I doubt it. Chances are, had they met when Hopkins was prime, BHOP would have ruined Calzaghe, as well as his public image. Perhaps to the point of Calzaghe running away and retiring even earlier. After all, it was Joe's poor punching technique that led to his so-called, brittle hands.

Calzaghe was awesome. Fast as lightning, could adjust, sure made Hopkins look like a fool.

Who to fight?

Benn was gone, Collins ducked him, BHop pulled out of fights with him years ago.
He didn't do himself any favours by not travelling to the US, but to paraphrase Eubank:

"He's World Champion, they should go to him"

Most top fighters have got a record full of bums you only need look at RJJ to prove that.

 

Calzaghe did fight some rubbish but so do most champions.Eubank fought his fair share of undeserving fighters.Calzaghe did fight some decent guys as well.Starie was not a bad fighter(the fight was dire)Woodhall was a good fighter as were Brewer and Mitchell.He also went in and beat Lacy and Kessler at super middle.
I agree fights against the likes of Pudwill and Manfreado were farcical but he had a lot of nights that were decent.

Obviously you missed Hopkins fighting in his prime. Had you seen any of those clips you would easily see that Hopkins is a fraction of his old self in the ring. Yes, like any other 45 year old boxer, he is FADED. This is why they call it. past prime.
