Ray Mercer vs Wladimir Klitschko Prime for Prime

This is easy, Mercer KO mid rounds...Anyone who thinks Wlad could win, needs to watch his fights versus Lewis and Morrison...

Mercer started late and had a short prime, messed it all up with spotty training habits which unfortunately many think indicative of his ability, see ferguson/Holmes...Mercer was a beast when motivated, I still think he beat prime Lennox Lewis (barely though, what a fight)...And even old Lewis KTFO any version of Wlad...

 

you always find a new way to say something negative about WK. Yeah WK got beat, happens to almost every boxer .Would it happen to him now that he is in this prime? No one really knows and you just made this thread so that others reaffirm your existing belief and make you feel good in the process. I am not even going to argue here because it is pointless. Why don't you make WK vs Sanders poll next ?

Mercer would show up, in his prime, and end up looking like **** except for one or two moments against Wlad. After the fight, people would write Mercer off for not preparing, not being legit, etc.

Fantasy boy puts some serious time thinking fighters from past to beat Wladimir.

 

The hater's boxers can't come near beating Vitali or Vlad, so they make up fights from the past that can't be proven.

 

Prime Mercer vs Recent Wladimir is a 50/50 fight, I'm not sure who to pick there but Wladimir by SD isn't out of question, nor is Mercer by late TKO.

Mercer was too strong to hold without taking a beating, reference former Steward trained HWC Lewis...Watch how similar Lewis' style looks to Wlad, with exception of Lewis' willingness to throw caution to the wind at times...Watch how effective jab 'n grab works for Lewis in that fight...Imagine it was Wlad taking those shots....

It's just the styles, Mercer's being the prototype for taking advantage of Wlad's weaknesses...Mercer would rough Wlad up, especially on the inside, take him far out of his comfort zone, and then knock him out...

 

Off topic but I find this pretty interesting..

42 year old Larry Holmes schooled Ray Mercer who few months earlier knocked out then undefeated Morrison (28-0-0).

Four years later Lewis in "his hardest fight" gets majority decision over 35 year old Mercer who came off from loss to Holyfield, split decisions wins to Marion Wilson (7-9-2) and Jesse Ferguson (20-10-0).

 

I see wlad owning him with the jab, some what like the first brewster fight, where brewster kept coming an coming, an wlad hit like a punching bag, now as long wlad dosn't get drugged, i see him finishing ray late about 9th or 10th

 

I am a big fan of mercer, the guy was a great fighter but he doesnt do very well when stepping up. His style isnt the attck style u guys are making out, he was a boxer puncher. He wouldnt be cutting the ring off.

Wlad would break him down and likely stop him or win a wide UD

 

Only thing we know for sure is what happened in their real fight in '02:

- Mercer was knocked down in the first round by two left hooks.

- Mercer suffered a cut over the right eye by a lead hook in the 5th round.

- Referee Randy Neumann stopped the fight after a barrage of unanswered power punches in the 6th round.

- Klitschko also suffered some battle wounds as his eyes puffed up as a result of Mercer's jab in the third.
