So was Jones a legend when Hopkins fought him first time round, or was he just an undefeated promising fighter having his first world title attempt? You know the answer :patsch

Jones vs Michalczewski at LHW in 1999 would have been a more interesting fight, as the 2 best established LHWs, but Jones didnt want it

It's clearly to the majority of boxing fans worldwide that Hopkins did enough to beat Calzaghe in their first match. In that fight, Hopkins used a defensive strategy inwhich he was able to throw between the wide slapping flailings of Calzaghe's arms and land short, crisp counters on Calzaghe inrushing skull, all night. Rather than deploying the back-to-ropes while standing stationary against the ropes ala, Mayweather, Toney, Hopkins instead used his legs to slide along the ropes having Calzaghe chasing him and leaving himself susceptible to right and left counter hooks and jabs. I believe the style Hopkins used was wrong for that fight. It was enough to secure the win in the eyes of boxing fans who understood that it was Hopkins, not Calzaghe landing the meaningful punches. However, it left enough space for the judges to hand the white boy a free-bee.
following the fight, Hopkins understood his mistake in deploying a defensive posture against Calzaghe and immediately worked to get a rematch. If he had been successful what we would have saw was Hopkins using an entirely different strategy against Calzaghe. An offensive one as we saw in Hopkins-Pavlik. That strategy would have seen Hopkins revenge his loss by TKO. Unfortunately, Calzaghe has a strong danger alarm built into his brain and ran off and retired, exhausting his fortune on nose candy. Yet another fighter ruined by their encounter with the greatest SMW/MW in recent history; Bernard Hopkins.

Gone to America to fight who?
Calzaghe beat all of Americas best SMWs who would face him and Hopkins point blankly wouldnt fight him then. So why as champion should Calzaghe have gone to the states? Who to face? Remember Jones was at HW before Calzaghe even beat Mitchell

Calzaghe beat 3 of these fighters within his 10 year reign in the smw division.

    WOW.

What a staggering achievement. No wonder he is within the top 5 Welsh fighters ever.

Which of the fighter that Calzaghe fought, that put his life on the line every time he stepped in the ring earning every cent of his paycheck, do you consider a bum?
