Go with what you're most comfortable with which you said was from a lefty stance. Your jab will get better just practice with it as I did and still do. Really watch Wright & Hagler to really see how to fight correctly from the southpaw stance and throw that right jab with authority. Hagler does switch sometimes but don't do that as you're still trying to get accustomed to being in 1 stance so switching will confuse you. Good luck and practice as much as you can.

I am naturally right handed but for the life of me i can't fight in the orthodox stance, I think it is an advantage fighting as a southpaw, my jab is like a right cross and i'm very good with the right hook, my left is good my right is great, i've never boxed amateur or pro but wish someone was there to encourage me to do so when I was younger, because i love to fight.

As a right handed guy I will almost never switch unless I'm just too tired and hurt to think about my stance (which has happened a few times in my harder amatuer fights). The power shots are the lead left hook, which I think can generate a lot of force, and my straight right. Everything else for me is worthless, my right cross is worth nothing. I have a tendency to swarm and arm punch. I don't think it does any good for a conventional guy to switch to a Southpaw stance.

My father fought on the marine corps boxing team, and he IS a southpaw counterpuncher who converted to orthodox. You don't want to get hit flush by his lead left hook, truly devastating, and his jabs hurt as well. (when he was younger). His right is not as powerful except for an uppercut that shoots up the middle, so his best combinations look something like Marquez: powerful uppercuts and lead hooks, except you don't have to worry about straight rights from him, but he can always switch, where his straight left becomes powerful and his jab doesn't work as well

I think this depends on the type of shots you like to throw. I like my orthodox right hand as a lead or as part of a 1-2-3, as it is quick and powerful, and I would not want to sacrifice the leverage and lose my lead left hook. Those are my two best punches, and they are generated from my natural stance. If you are like my dad and have good hooks and uppercuts and don't care for a long range straight attack, converting may add another dimension to your game, but switching would hurt my effectiveness and take away my two primary weapons.

Dude same here I'm 24 now so I feel like if I had started when I was about 12 or 13 I'd probably be a contender...**** that with my mindframe Andre Berto would be ducking me at 147 I'm 6'2 I walk around at about 158-160 and I'd be a southpaw and I grew up in a boxing city GrandRapids MI but the supprt for that was never there I was handed a basketball lol. But my love for boxing never died.
